Weirdest food you've ever eaten

Nice job, FCB. You really brought your "A" game to this thread.

Escargot about 4 years ago - buttery and salty - not much more than that
Oxtail soup at the same meal as the escargot - tasty
Several types of caviar last summer - not my favorite stuff in the world
Went to a cookout two Labor Days past that had duck, dove, buffalo, rabbit, venison, plus some others.....My mouth is watering right now thinking of the dove. I've never eaten anything so tasty in my life.

Other than Bea Arthur's pussy, of course.

I have an opportunity to eat one of those pickled hot sausages in the odd pink liquid that presumably sit on bars unrefridgerated for a period of 16 years or so, in about 30 minutes.

Thoughts?

I've had Octopus that was pulled from a tank and immediately chopped into bite-size pieces and served on a plate with a red bean paste dipping sauce. The pieces were still moving around on the plate and the little suction cups on the tentacles grabbed the inside of your cheeks as you tried to eat them. Not much taste to them....which is why they give you the spicy dipping sauce.

But, the absolute weirdest food (hate to even classify it as such) that I've eaten was a balut egg. Absolutely disgusting. If you don't know what it is, it's an egg that's pretty close to hatching. So, it's not really an egg, and not quite a chick yet....right there in the gray area...I believe it was basically either steamed or boiled....I do remember it having some feathers

Vinegary, spicy, gelid mystery meat in an inorganic casing that requires a combination yanking/grinding motion to sever all while dripping rosy-blush liquid onto your lap that may never come out and exudes an almost visible miasma?

Dude, don't miss out on that!

Did you go to Thailand or wherever the heck it is they specialize in Balut to eat it? I think they boil it, Zimmern did a show in Thailand I think where he had one of these. And of course, the old Fear Factor had balut once.

This guy has a pretty good weird food dining blog. It links to his balut experience.

No. I had it in a Soju tent at a street market in Korea. The soju failed to numb the taste buds enough for that stuff.

I am positive I would ask for it's head to be removed before serving as well, I'm not a huge fan of my food looking back at me!

Rodent is a pretty popular type of protein outside of the US.
The Louisiana state board has been trying for years to get people to accept Nutria as a meat alternative. It's been a fur animal forever.

Especially with teeth sticking out of it's face looking at you as well!
