It kind of has to be like that, at some point it needs to be which teams earned the spot vs the 4 best. Sometimes the best slip up and that's how they lose their spot to an inferior team.

Yeah, I think it was-at least to an extent. Do you think anyone outside of ACC people would cry over one loss UNC being left out in favor of Ohio State? Especially if it were a close game?

So the CFB playoff criteria also compares teams by similar opponents and how they played against them in order to rank the teams. Well if North Carolina wins against Clemson and we are comparing similar opponents wouldn't that Virginia Tech game be another tiebreaker, North Carolina went into Overtime with Virginia Tech and won 20-17 while Ohio State won in a blowout 42-24.

Yes, I think a lot of people would criticize a decision to put a 1-loss OSU wildcard team into the playoff ahead of a 1-loss ACC champion. I also think that the hypothetical number of non-ACC people who would criticize the decision is irrelevant. With five allegedly Power Conferences and four playoff spots, wildcard teams are likely to get in only under very unusual circumstances; like a three or four-loss team from a conference's scrub division pulling a shocking upset in a CCG.

If Carolina beats Clemson, they're in. It's not really a good debate for the Buckeyes. Maybe if we hadn't received such a Charmin-soft draw from the B1G West (no Iowa, Northwestern, Wisconsin, or Nebraska), we'd have a better resume. All we have is 42-13, which feels great. But not enough to get in over a Power 5 Conference Champion with one loss.

So would you say Florida would get in over us with an upset with 2 loses from the "big bad" SEC?

Lots of variables still to play out. But we are clearly on the outside looking in. Our best shot is if Bama loses. That is the key game imho. Bama loses and we're in. Not sure what would happen if Clemson is the only team that loses. It would be a toss up at that point. UNC or tOSU? You could effectively argue either side.

I just can't see a two loss team getting in.

One thing though: If we play like we did against scUM I don't think anyone could beat us.

I agree, but I could see UNC getting punished for playing 2 FCS teams. That's what killed the Big 12 last year. If UNC wins Urban would have some room to politic.

Point margin in victories against common opponents:
UNC
Illinois 34 pts
VT 3 pts
Total: 37 pts

OSU
Illinois 25 pts
VT 18 pts
Total: 43 pts

Note: Both our games were away games. UNC played Illinois at home.

No way Florida gets in, they just lost while scoring 2 points against Florida State and the week before needed an OT stop to beat a 3 win CUSA school. The committee seems smart enough to recognize that they aren't one of the top teams, seeing as how last week they were 12th with one loss (UNC the only 1 loss team being lower at 14) I'd expect them to be around 17 at the highest when the new poll comes out tomorrow. No way they could justify cranking a 2 loss team that many spots into the top 4 if they somehow happen to beat Bama.
