Let's try it again. I signed up for a pic hosting service. Let me know if things are coming through. And if they are, I'm sure that it's just a matter of time before these jackals attempt to hold my pic hostage for a monthly fee a'la Photobucket.

I enjoy the discussion and pictures that you guys have brought.
Ignorantly, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Breitling. Always heard they were pretty solid when my sister was running a jewelry store. Granted, they were well over my Fossil price tags.

I almost bought a Breitling that day in Vienna in 1994, but decided to save some money and went with the TAG above. Breitling's a good brand, probably closer to TAG than Omega/Rolex/IWC over the last twenty years. My understanding, however, is that the new CEO has really pushed the quality level up though in streamlining the offerings and emphasizing in-house movements going forward.

I look at a lot of watches, but don't buy any. I'm pretty much a dive watch guy, although I really should get a nice clean dress watch. At any rate, Breitlings are usually too busy for my taste.

Feel free to mock, but I actually wear this Swiss automatic (ETA 2836-2) Deep Blue Master 2000 GMT (mine's the top photo with the black dial, orange hand, and blue GMT hand although I have the original, not the reissue). Pretty generic looking, but it's a tank, which I like, has amazing lume, takes the beating that my clumsy ass puts on it w/o any issues and came lightly used from a watch forum for a pretty good price. http://oceanictime.blogspot.com/2017/11/deep-blue-watches-master-2000-gmt-10-yr.html

ETA movements are grossly under appreciated. They're built like brick shithouses, there will always be abundant spare parts around, and they will run forever. My TAG went over 20 years before I finally had it serviced/repaired, and it cost less than $200 with no new parts needed.

The Omega Forum keeps me humble. Watch baller on BP one moment; watch pikey on the Omega forum the next.

These guys are pretty generic (sold on TV), but I've got a fancier variant that I'm perfectly happy with (as detailed above) and the one linked comes with a Seiko automatic movement, sapphire crystal, and decent specs as a nice but not huge size:

These guys make a zillion variants at different price points and all kinds of colors ... Don't know how much you're looking to spend or if a diver is even your thing.

What the fuck is the deal with watch repair shops refusing to sell you springbars. I forgot to order a pair for the milanese bracelet that I want to put on the Alpina. I went to two places in Chicago and both refused to sell them to me. One guy was flat out rude. "I DONT SELL PARTS!"

I mean, you're a fucking watchmaker, and a guy comes in wearing an Omega and wanting a couple of springbars for an obscure vintage Swiss watch...one that might need servicing and repairs down the road. Wouldn't you think, "hey, this might be a guy that I should cultivate a customer relationship with, but no. Instead, you give him the high hat.

So, we discuss the matter further....

And I walk out, never to return.
