Voice chat on BP / Ventrilo Server

Clarity

If BP had a Ventrilo server, meaning, a way for people to voice chat over the site (this would not be something run on our web server, so would have no impact in that way, although you would be able to see from the site who was connected and chatting) -- would anyone use it?

Is this something people would be interested in? You would have to have a microphone, and would need to download a free piece of software. There would be different rooms for people to chat/conference/h0tcyb0rz in. We've had IRC and java-based text chat here before, but if we're going to type to one another, there are PMs and the forums themselves. This could be as much a 'fun' tool, as a genuine and free means to collaborate on projects.

Not trying to sell it here or otherwise convince anyone. Just offering it. Could be an interesting addition to BP, and it's not something other football/basketball fan forums have done, as I'm aware. We've ventured into video, maybe it's time for audio as well.

For those unfamiliar, this is conferencing, not person-to-person VoIP stuff. If 100 people are in a room, 100 people can be talking.

Mods/admins can kick and globally mute, passwords can be applied to channels or the whole server. It would certainly be less 'moderated' than the forums themselves, but that's the nature of live conversation.

I can't find the thread about this, but is there a discussion about the new BP forum front-page layout? If so, the "hottest threads" needs to be adjusted. The "hottest threads" is by post total only which means that the old OSU/Texas thread is the most popular. Probably should include the threads that have the most posts over the past 2 weeks, month, etc.

That would be a hoot on game day... I'd love to be able to leave it on speaker and hear O-H! I-O! from across the country all morning, and it would be fun to cheer live with friends and fellow Buckeyes during the game.

Yeah, I noticed that. Checking into it now.
