Vince Young (unemployed)

So he is confident that he can guarantee a win? Doesn't sound like he is guaranteeing a victory. for those of you who don't live/visit NY, the post is full of crap day in day out. They mangled up some quotes and some context, etc. It wasn't as good of an answer as Chad Johnson's, but a true guarantee comes out almost by itself without all of the prodding. I'd rather him say what he said then to instill any type of doubt in his team's chances. But that's just me, and I will also try to find a way to defend Vince in just about any situation, color me biased. Oh and I guarantee that he is coming back next year :)
most of us dont know much about the nytimes, only that they had a writer do an interview with an individual in a mental instituion...

Well it is all about that layed back style @ Texas. I think ever since last years Rose bowl, Texas has just had that layed back, like we don't care about anyone but ourselves and we are going to take care of business.

I also know that it doesnt matter how he said it, it is going to get blown up into him guaranting a win, so he better come to play or they are going to be all over his ass.

I see no "guarantee" of anything. They asked him if he thought Texas could win and if he had confidence. What was he supposed to say..."No"? If you want to check an example of a guarantee, check Joe Namath's guarantee before Super Bowl III.

As for swagger, arrogance, etc., just take a look at A.J. Hawk, Bobby Carpenter, and Mike Kudla. They just play ball with no fanfare whatsoever. Hell, even our more "celebratory" players (Smith, Holmes, Pittman, Ginn) have done nothing more than a quick tug of the front of their jerseys (and only Pittman and Ginn have done that) after a TD. No chest-thumping on this team.

To me, just quietly going out and kicking ass is the epitome of a bad-ass team.

VY isn't the type to talk a lot of smack... before 9/10 when asked about playing at night in the Shoe, he just shrugged and said that he's played in big games before, and he'd played at night before, and he'd played in front of hostile crowds before...

he was clearly prodded into the 'guarantee.'

anyway, while everyone is weighing in on Chad Johnson; i love him. yeah, he makes outrageous claims, and yeah he does ridiculous celebrations, BUT, remember that this is a GAME that we are talking about... he's just out there having fun...

I don't take what he said as a guarantee. It sounded like confidence in his team, but he unwisely chose his words. He could have / should have said something like, "I feel really good about our chances. USC is a great team, but we have a great team at Texas, and I think it will be a very good game," or "beat it, you hippie reporters, I'm trying to watch a basketball game."

I didn't read this whole thread but saw the interview during the Duke game and Vince didn't "guarantee" anything.

Just confident in his team, god forbid a QB be confident in his team.

Just another case of the meida trying to make a story out of nothing.

there have been some cocky comments coming out, but that's one of the reasons that this team is different that the one's in the past.

Yup. I have always been the "shut up and play" type but this team needed a change. In the recent past we were more of a just show up and hope instead of a bust your ass and be loud and have fun team.

from what texas fans have said over the past year, he's had the weight of texas on his back since HS.

It really is a wonder that he has been able to handle the pressure. Its not often that a kid becomes a prep hero in the City of houston. Imagine sold out HS football games to an innercity team. I have seen it happen twice in Houston. Once was Vince Young the Other was the Willowridge basketball team that had 6 Players go D1 including TJ Ford and Daniel Ewing.

It has been fun to watch. They care about each other and clearly work harder than any team we have had here in a while. They just have fun while doing so.

That game was painful to watch and i missed the Vince interview. The bottom line is that this guy writes for the NY Post. How many papers are looking for a different scoop? They will manipulate and paraphrase until things look the way they want them too. If you notice the quote, they never say the exact thing that was asked to Vince Young. All that is mentioned is that he was asked if he would like to guarantee a victory like Joe. I would be willing to bet that the first part of the question most likely went something like this," Vince, are you confident that your team can play well against USC? Would you like to make a guar...."

I wish he stays, I know the Texas fans will blame VY departure for a loss against the Buckeyes, I rather our boys play the best. Who is the replacement anyway?

We redshirted our only other scholly QB this year, with the great name of Colt McCoy. Other than that we will have two freshman coming in, one, Harris, will be likely to redshirt. The other, is Jevan Snead, who decommitted from Florida (although that was a possible reaction to FL getting another QB recruit), is an early enrollment in Texas in the spring. So we are not deep at the QB position in the least bit, his departure will hurt, and our running game will be even more of a focus.

I can't believe that he really thought he had a chance. He stated in an interveiw that he was on the bench by the 4th quarter in most games. I am sure he realizedthat Bush split time with LenDale White.
