Young, Titans do a number on Saints

Tuesday, September 25, 2007 3:45 AM

NEW ORLEANS -- Vince Young got the best of Reggie Bush again, and the NFL's feel-good team from last season is off to a dismal start.
Young threw two touchdown passes and the Tennessee Titans kept New Orleans winless on the season, beating the Saints 31-14 last night before a Superdome crowd that showered boos on the team that provided such a pick-me-up to the devastated city a year ago.

Fisher says Young should be ready to start for Titans this week

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said Monday that he expects Vince Young to return to the Titans' starting lineup against the Raiders this week.

Young missed Sunday's victory against the Texans with a sore right quadriceps, which he suffered against Tampa Bay on Oct. 14.
"It was a very clear-cut decision we had to make,'' Fisher said, according to the Tennessean. "Now we have moved forward and said, 'OK, you have healed up to the point where you can go, so we expect you to take all the reps on the practice field and we'll put this behind you.'''

Titans' Young returns to class to earn degree

Thursday, February 21, 2008 3:24 AM
By Suzanne Halliburton

Austin American-Statesman

AUSTIN, Texas -- Vince Young's newest, immediate goals have nothing to do with the football field. Rather, the former University of Texas quarterback -- now with the NFL's Tennessee Titans -- is thinking about how achieving a 4.0 grade-point average is a realistic objective for him this spring. So is finishing his degree.
"I've been making some good B's right now. I've been making some high B's. Hopefully, the A's are coming," Young said.
Young has been away from Austin for two years, since leading the Longhorns to the 2005 national championship. In January 2006, he gave up his final year of eligibility and declared for the NFL draft, where he was the third pick overall.

Pressure almost pushed Young out of NFL after one season

Vince Young is known for escaping pressure. The quarterback almost took that to extremes.

The Tennessee Titans 2006 Rookie of the Year told NFL.com in an interview posted on Monday that he considered retirement after his first season.

"I really thought long and hard about it," Young told the Web site. "There was so much going on with my family. It was crazy being an NFL quarterback. It wasn't fun anymore. All of the fun was out of it. All of the excitement was gone. All I was doing was worrying about things.

"My teammates helped lift me out of it. I prayed really hard. And I began to focus on God's calling for me. Play football. Be a role model."

UT to retire Young, Durant jerseys

AUSTIN (AP) -- The University of Texas is honoring two of its biggest sports stars by retiring the jersey numbers of Vince Young and Kevin Durant.

Young, who wore No. 10, was the quarterback of the Longhorns' 2005 national championship team. Durant, who wore No. 35, played only his freshman basketball season for the Longhorns, but was the consensus national player of the year in 2006-07.

The school said Friday it also will retire the numbers of seven other former athletes. They are quarterback Bobby Layne (No. 22), linebacker Tommy Nobis (60), basketball player Slater Martin (15) and baseball players Burt Hooton (20), Greg Swindell (21), Brooks Kieschnick (23) and Scott Bryant (25).

A bit off topic, but I'd like it if schools only retired jerseys of players that have graduated. It should be an incentive to come back and finish up a degree while playing professionally or afterward. I'm not knocking Durant here, as he is working toward finishing his degree while in the NBA, just in general I'd like to see academic institutions recognizing their student athletes.

Vince had a down year last season. No question about it.

I expect him to come back this season and have a great year. He still needs WR's though. Don't understand why they didn't take Limas Sweed in the 1st round. The signing of Alge Crumpler should help him out a lot, though.

When your #1 wide receiver is Justin Gage, Roydell Williams and/or Brandon Jones, something's wrong.

Young to have number retired by Texas prior to season-opener

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Vince Young legacy keeps growing at Texas.

The quarterback who led the Longhorns to the 2005 national championship will have his No. 10 retired in a ceremony before Saturday night's season opener against Florida Atlantic.

Young's name and number will be permanently displayed on the facade of the new upper deck in the north end zone of Darrell K. Royal/Texas Memorial Stadium. He will also be presented with a framed burnt-orange jersey.

What about interceptions? He is among the league worst in the nfl in a lot of
passing stats..Some in which it's not just his receivers fault. I agree about Limus Sweed..More then Tenny may regret not taking him(cough cough cinncy).

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Nashville police were asked to search for Vince Young on Monday evening after family members placed a call to the Tennessee Titans informing them of their concern for the quarterback's state of mind.

According to Nashville Metro Police spokesman Don Aaron, Young "abruptly" left his home in Williamson County at around 7 p.m. Monday without his cell phone. Those with him at his home, including family members, were "concerned with his emotional well-being," Aaron said.
Police issued a bulletin to all on-duty officers to be on the lookout for Young and negotiators were also placed on stand-by, a procedure that is common in such situations, Aaron said.
Someone contacted Fisher out of concern for Young, and Fisher contacted the police department, police said.

Sprained MCL to keep Titans' Young out of lineup

The MRI results came in and revealed -- pretty much as expected -- that Titans quarterback Vince Young sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee Sunday against the Jaguars.

The Titans are not giving a timetable for his return. Normally, a medial collateral ligament strain could take four to six weeks to heal, but quarterbacks can return in two to four weeks because the style of their game is different from that of say running backs or cornerbacks. Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson bounced back from an MCL tear and played two weeks later.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said only that Young would be out this week.
