i think that it's an unwise move, considering the risk of injury that another football season offers. while leinart's choice to stay has likely paid dividends, he has taken a great risk as well. leinart's decision to stay also had more to do with just having a very good time, as well as recognizing that last year's quarterback market was stronger and, therefore, more competitive. young's decision to stay would probably have more to do with earning a national championship. if texas makes it to the national championship game and beats usc, i'd feel confident saying that young will probably move on. if texas loses to usc, then it may be a 50/50 situation.
if leinart had entered the nfl draft last year, i don't think that young would even be considering it. being the primo quarterback any given year is good for at least few extra million. does young want to battle leinart for that spot? does he care? does it really matter? of course, it is his decision to make and only his decision to make, but i think that it is a foolish one. a quarterback runs too great a risk of injury before banking, especially when his currency is so strong.
i feel most confident that young's declaration was just a ploy to rally the longhorn nation. he should have waited to make that statement until after the final regular season game.
he may not win the heisman, but does vince young want to pull a matt leinart or a jason white?
