Vince Young (unemployed)

There's no doubt that Vince Young is a great college quarterback, but I don't think another year in the Texas offense will adequately prepare him for the NFL. He's a hybrid right now-- with Kordell Stewart legs and a Bernie Kosar sidearm sling. Rather than 25-35 yarders ropped to wide receivers in the championship game, I saw a lot of short passes to the tight end and a lot of tuck and runs. If he really wants to be an NFL quarterback, he needs to hone his passing skills through some full-time NFL coaching.

the reason that you saw all of the short routes is that he was going through his progression and making the check downs. PC has admited that they didn't think that Vince could dink and dunk his way down the field. Give USC credit, they did a great job of taking away the big play(through the air anyway).

Don't know if this should be on the rumor mill, but I have heard an unconfirmed source say that VY will be entering the draft for sure this year.

I can't really blame him b/c of his stock right now and he certainly deserves all the accolades, but he would make a much better TE / WR than a QB in the NFL.

I'm not saying this to incite Texas fans responses. It is just my opinion. He has no juice on the ball when he throws and he has had years to throw the ball for most of his career behind that line. He hasn't had to step up in the pocket and deliver a dart over the middle. In addition, there is not a chance in hell his running style will yield similar results in the NFL b/c of the speed of the game. He has long strides whereas a guy like Vick is faster and more shifty (Although we could argue he hasn't had great success yet in the NFL either).

I have heard other sources, whom I believe, also state that he is gone. IMO, he is another Steve McNair-a bit taller and faster, but same skill set, attitude, and playing style.

I personally think he'll be a good NFL QB, just not a franchise maker.

That being said, if he's honestly getting feedback from the NFL putting him as a top 5 pick he needs to take that and run. You can't get any higher than top 5, only lower. That can be due to a multitude of factors, chief among them a Willis McGahee type injury.

I'm all for college kids staying for their SR years but not if they can go in the top 5 of the draft.

he should jump this year... because if he doesn't.. next year at this same time... there will be MUCH debate in the NFL...

Vince Young or Troy Smith -- who to take first

I second that emotion. osubro was closer to the mark - Kosar throwing motion, and Kordell legs - though actually I think his running ability might only be topped by that other Young, Steve.

Put him in the right system and his quick release and height can overcome any perceived shortcomings of his throwing mechanics. As for no pep on his throws, he gets the ball to the receivers and tight ends on shorter patterns with great speed and ease - and that's money on third down in the NFL.

Troy is listed at 6'1", I think he is closer to 6'0". I'm not saying he won't get drafted I just think he wouldn't be considered when VY is because of the 4-5 inch height difference. I don't think it matters because VY is gone this year anyhow.

Does anyone else on the "Planet" find it utterly ridiculous that black QB's are always compared to other black QB's? Not just here, but just about everywhere I look VY is compared to McNair, McNabb, Vick, Cunningham, Culpepper or Moon.

When I look at this kid, and PURELY as a QB and what that consists of, the player that I'm reminded of is John Elway. I'm not talking about arm strength, height, stride, or any of that. I'm talking about a guy's ability to beat you, and VY has as much ability to "beat you" as any QB in CFB that I've seen in a long time. Not just his arm or his legs set him apart, what sets him apart are his guts, grit, and incredible poise in pressure situations. Those attributes are what made Elway great, and VY seems to have them down to a "T"

That being said, go get rich in the NFL Vince. Let somebody else have a chance, because with you in CFB next year, nobody else will.
