Vince Young (unemployed)

You mean besides the fact that he can't pass?

I guess I am going to be on the other side of most of you on here, but I feel that he is an avg. passer. Much like Vick was coming out of school and he is getting better.

There is a reason why I said put him in the Lions offense. They have 3 recievers and 1 good te. The 3 recievers are still trying to find a connection with a QB and Young could easily strike up that connection with one of them, say Roy Williams(I believe he threw to him in college, coulduve been b4 Young).

The thing that he needs to work on his decision making, but that will improve over time, which does he want to do, improve it on an NFL field making lots of money or @ Texas. I guess that is the million dollar ?.

Here are some stats. I would call these pretty damn impressive.

He is also a very good leader as we have all seen this year, and that is not coachable. He would fit right in an nfl lockeroom and that can not be overlooked. I don't see a quite guy here that might just sit back and not do what he needs to b/c he is a rookie and I don't see a TO or Keyshawn type guy.

I know you guys are going to think I am stupid, but My order for Qb's in next years draft would go Omar Jacobs, Young, Lienhart.

IMO Lienhart has not been under pressure in his career and he has had Reggie Bush in the backfield with him and The athletes he has around him are amazing. Put him in the right situation and he will be fine, but I just don't think he would be my franchise QB if I didnt have a lot to work with, like a team like the Texans, Dolphins, etc.

I think that may be overstating it a bit...

168/268 for 2576 yards
62.7% completion rate
9.6 yds/att
23/9 TD/Int ratio
165.03 rating

He is not the "classic" passer, but to say he can't pass is not accurate IMO.

while he may have some stats unlike most of the media which jumped on his bandwagon i didnt because look who has played. other than us where he showed how errant his passes and decisions can be he has played NOBODY. A&M almost lost to DIAA texas state and didnt even have mcneal in the texas game, ok state almost lost to florida atlantic, oklahoma got throttled by UCLA, they played La Tech, texas tech is a fraud. fact of the matter is if troy smith and ohio state was playing the big 12 this year we would go undefeated as well and smith would prolly put up the same numbers if not better.

I don't understand why you would not want him as your QB.

Hell I think he is a better runner than Vick an just as good a passer. We all see what Vick does for the ATL offense and where it is without him.

He would help a team with a under acheiveing o-line. I could see him in Detroit, I think he would be a stud there.

They wouldnt be able to unleash the rush, and he would have time to hit the big recievers they have. A bad ball could still be caught and they also have a very talented rb who is hurt right now in Jones.

Young in Detroit would be scary to me.

i think his only shot is at a receiver position in my opinion. watching young compared to vick, vick clearly looks like the better passer and runner in every aspect. young just has a beastly size and strength which is why if he beefed up i could see him at TE if not WR since he has pretty good speed. being an average QB doesnt cut it in the NFL. people rave that vick cant pass but when he needs to he gets the job done and he didnt get selected to go to the pro bowl just because he can run with the ball.

young made some bad decisions when getting sacked, but his other passes were pretty good. I don't think he was as bad as you are describing against us.

He is definitely better than Vick was as a QB in college, and is harder to bring down than Vick (and a LOT more durable, Vick seems to get up slow after every scramble or two). I like cbf40's idea about the lions, I think that would be a good fit for him.

if we're gonna claim he hasn't played any teams, smith hasn't beaten a single good zone defense if we're gonna argue like that... and most know I'm a big smith apologist.

I agree with you on Vick, I back him all the time.

I am not sure that his passes where very errant in my opinion. He had a couple bad decisions but what QB doesnt. He has that knack as a winner as he put that ball to Sneed against us right where it had to be(I swear if I see that replay one more time this college football seaosn I am going to puke). He had some very nice throws against us and we all know how well he can run.

I didn't mean at all. Mack Brown wouldn't start him if he couldn't, but CFB40 was talking about him going to Detroit, and if I was an NFL GM, I wouldn't want him starting (at QB) on my team. He makes way to many stupid mistakes.
Like grad21 said, he has improved, but he has a long way to go to become a good passer.

I have never said he is Peyton Manning or anything, but doesnt ever qb in college make bad decisions.

He has shown improvement from last year to this year. What makes you think he can't do the same to next year.

He also has his legs that can help out in bad situations. Escapability is undervalued IMO. Would Elway of been as good if he wasnt able to allude the rush and pick up yards.

I am not comparing Young's throwing ability to Drew Bledsoe, but if Bledsoe could move like Young he would be top 5 QB in the league. he still makes bad decisions and gets sacked an awful lot b/c he can't move in the pocket. Letting defenses attack him.

He doesn't have to be Peyton Manning to be good.
I'm sure he will improve from this year to next year if the stays, as will just about every other junior QB in the country. But right now, he's leaps and bounds behind alot of NFL prospect QBs as far as passing goes, and he has an entire offense of homerun hitters. And unless whatever team that drafts him decides to incorporate the option into their offense, his mobility will only take him so far.

That sure looks like what you meant. Do I think he is going to go into the NFL and start from day one? No. Very few do that anyway. But to claim this guy can't pass is kind of ridiculous. That pass to the endzone against us happened 20 feet from me, and it was an incredible pass. The guy can play QB at the next level, plain and simple. Is he the best QB out there? Depends on what you're looking for. As jwins pointed out, his stats are markedly better than Vicks. Write that off to worse competition if you want, we can say their stats even out then (worst case scenario). He still compares favorably to Vick coming out of college. And as far as stupid mistakes go, he's still a junior in college. He's not in the NFL yet. Remember Peyton Manning's first year in the NFL? I think we can expect some improvement and progress. That's what you're betting on whenever you draft someone...

Name the real big homerun hitters on his team compared to say USC, that Lienhart has. I would take Bush, white, Jarret, Smith b4 the guys on Texas' O. the only guys I would think about takin would be Taylor and their TE, but then USC has Byrd.

I guess I just don't see is passing defeciencies as bad as you do.

And I am pretty sure I heard all these same things about Vick when he came out, but some how he took a not so good Falcons team to the playoffs and beat Brett Farve in Lambeau.

Why Omar Jacobs? He put up sick number when he was a Junior, but he's been only lackluster in his senior outing.

Admittedly, I haven't seen him as much as I'd like, but his numbers ain't stellar.

JMO that he is just another one of them Mac QB's to go under the radar.

If BG had anything resembling a defense this year and Jacobs would of stayed healthy they would of went undefeated and they would be looking at a BCS spoiler right now.

He is has great size, and a great arm.
