Vince Young (unemployed)

Texas QB Vince Young (official thread)

On Pardon The Interruption Young says he's not even thinking about whether he'll come back to school next year and indicated it depends on how he's evaluated by NFL types. He said he'd love to play for the Texans. My guess... he's outta here.

I don't think i agree with that assessment entirely. I didn't hear him mention the evaluations (although that logically seemed likely to me). Plus while he talked up his local Texans. When asked if he would be happy to hear his name called by them he responded "I wouldn't have a choice *ha*"

Top 10 pick, maybe Top 5 I guess.

If it were me, I'd be gone.

Of course, I said that same thing about Leinart.

if he leaves this year, there is no way he is a top 5 pick. he probably wont play quarterback in the NFL anyways and you can almost predict 3 out of the top 5 picks(Hawk, Bush, Leinart)

If he were to stay an extra year, he might boost his stats enough to go top 5. i would have to agree with you though. i would leave too. an extra year in the pros means more money and a little bit longer of a career(barring injury) that's what my philosophy would be.

What other position would he possibly play? I think Young has proved that he can effectively pass the ball, and is a great runner, too. This guy got it done with his arm against us (unfortunately), when he couldn't rack up yards on the gorund. I think Young will be a Top Five pick, but I don't think he'll go to the Texans because David Carr is a good QB when his O-Line blocks well. That's totally off-topic, though. I believe Vince Young has the speed, size, and arm to get it done in the NFL, and I would gladly take him on my team (if I was an NFL GM).

If Vince Young were to leave Texas this year it would throw the entire question of who might be under center in Austin completely up in the air.

Frankly, I don't see Young going back on his publicly stated word to return.

Why? Unless Nordgren is a senior I'd figure they would go with him as he is an effective pocket-passer. Their backfield is stacked as is with Charles and Melton.

A Vince-less '06 Texas squad would still be one hell of a tough opponent, but even if they have Young, I somehow get the feeling that our Bucks will play out of their minds in Austin, if not just for revenge. The scary thought is I see our offense keeping us in that game.

Nordgren is a senior.

Their backfield would be pretty seriously unstacked at the QB position if Young departs.

From the 2006 notes thread --
Quote:
The entering scholarship freshmen who were there that night, and are here today, have carved an extensive personal and team legacy. Offensively, the five-year players include receiver Brian Carter, tackle Will Allen, guard Mike Garcia, tackle Jonathan Scott, tackle Will Winston, and quarterback Matt Nordgren. Defensively, the list includes cornerback Cedric Griffin, safety Michael Huff, linebacker Eric Hall, linebacker Braden Johnson, and end Kaelen Jakes.
Joining the redshirt senior group are fullback Ahmard Hall, punter Richmond McGee, kicker David Pino, holder Nick Schroeder and special teams head hunter Karim Meijer.
Tight end David Thomas, linebacker Aaron Harris and defensive tackles Rodrique Wright and Larry Dibbles are the four-year seniors.
Here is the list of current QBs on the Texas roster from ESPN...
<table boder="1" class="tablehead" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" width="580"> <tbody><tr class="evenrow" valign="top"><td>18</td><td>Will Buchanan</td><td class="sortcell">QB </td> <td>6-1 </td> <td>180 </td> <td>Fr. </td> <td>Austin, TX </td></tr> <tr class="oddrow" valign="top"><td>12</td><td>Colt McCoy</td><td class="sortcell">QB </td> <td>6-3 </td> <td>195 </td> <td>Fr. </td> <td>Tuscola, TX </td></tr> <tr class="evenrow" valign="top"><td>13</td><td>Matthew McCoy</td><td class="sortcell">QB </td> <td>6-3 </td> <td>195 </td> <td>Jr. </td> <td>Dallas, TX </td></tr> <tr class="oddrow" valign="top"><td>7</td><td>Matt Nordgren</td><td class="sortcell">QB </td> <td>6-5 </td> <td>235 </td> <td>Sr. </td> <td>Dallas, TX </td></tr> <tr class="evenrow" valign="top"><td>14</td><td>Freddy Torres</td><td class="sortcell">QB </td> <td>6-1 </td> <td>190 </td> <td>Fr. </td> <td>Pecos, TX </td></tr> <tr class="oddrow" valign="top"><td>10</td><td>Vince Young</td><td class="sortcell">QB </td> <td>6-5 </td> <td>233 </td> <td>Jr. </td> <td>Houston, TX </td></tr></tbody> </table>

Of the above list Young, Nordgren and Colt McCoy are scholarship players.

From macbrown.com there is a slightly different list of QB's, with Colt not listed, and Gilbert Zepeda showing, also not as a scholarship player.

i think he will play wide receiver kind of like antwon randall el. he has great size and speed and we all know what kind of playmaker he is when he has the ball. i too would love him on my team but i would much rather have him as a receiver than as a scrambling quarterback in the NFL. thats my opinion and what i would try to do if i were the NFL GM.

Where did the Texans comment come from? Unless I have missed something, I didn't realize David Carr's job was in jeopardy. I think the Texans have far bigger needs than the QB position.

Ummm... someone posted something about Vince Young mentioning being drafted by his hometown "Texans" and I was just saying that the Texans really don't need a QB. You're right, though. The Texans have many other needs. Such as offensive linemen, and a defense that won't give up 30+ points a game, and squander such a huge lead against the Rams. Yep... it's tough for me, being a Texans fan, this year. :(
