Verizon & Android news

http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/111835/smartmoney-hello-iphone-goodbye-upgrades

Verizon officials have confirmed what SmartMoney was told by Verizon sales reps at a number of stores around the country: The company is ending its popular "New Every Two" program, which offers Verizon subscribers a credit of $30 to $100 toward a new phone every two years. As of Jan. 16, the company will stop offering the credit to new customers and won't re-enroll current customers in the program after their next New Every Two upgrade. The cell carrier is also putting the brakes on its permissive early upgrade policy, store representatives confirmed

yea, I went into verizon today, I think I'm going to get the droid X, that or the incredible, but everything I heard, almost the same, just screen size dif and X has HDMI
They're about to release a handful of new phones. Unless you can't wait another day, I'd take a look at the new phones coming out before buying old technology like those.

We called it the purest Android phone money can buy when we reviewed it, but now HTC's slider doesn't require quite as much cash. In fact, T-Mobile now has slashed it from $250 to...free! [T-Mobile via Phandroid]

Great deal. Why does HTC refuse to bring their great slider keyboard to Verizon? :( Motorola must be buying them off, because no one would buy a droid if they had a choice. The HTC Merge has been delayed so many times.

I was thinking about that, but might still go with the X just because I really don't care about having the latest thing, and that the new phones will prob be more expensive...are the new phones the 4G phones? (like the thunderbolt and bionic)?

I don't know a lot about phones and the 3G & 4G, but I was looking at the 4G network map that Verizon as and where they have it, theres none close to my area, so I assume theres really no point in a 4G if I am not even be able to use 4G this year

Those phones are. I believe the iPhone 5 is rumored to still be a 3G phone this summer.

How much is the Droid X right now? Are they offering a sale to clear out inventory, or just the typical 199?

still 199...but I figured the 4G phones might be more expensive? Im not phone savvy at all, but im basically thinking that since theres no 4G coverage in my area, then there's no point in....this would be my first smartphone, so having the newest one isn't that high on my list

Well over the next few months, they'll likely start dumping those phones for 99 or even free (on Amazon if not Verizon) like they did with the droid. As far as 4G coverage, they just released their next wave of cities, and plan to hit about 150 markets overall in 2011. Your area is listed in this next wave of cities.

Pricing is debatable, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't buy at least one of them for 199-249. They make their money on the contracts.

So my wife gets trashed the other night and drops her Droid 2 into a toilet. Yeah, I know, what was she doing with it? I'm afraid to ask. It's dead. Of course, I didn't by insurance because I never do stupid stuff like that. Okay, venting over. So, I was fumbling around on Verizon's website and found their trade in program. Lucky me, I find that the 2 HTC Droid Eris's I have are worth $132 each. I still have one upgrade on my phones. So I can get a Droid X or an Iphone 4 next month, which I would rather have anyways and still pocket $64. I'm thinking, good deal. I wouldn't have found the trade in program otherwise. So, I tell my wife that I can get the X and she can have my 2; thinking she would be excited that we could actually come out ahead. No, she was pissed that I'd be getting the new phone. Bitches, man, bitches.

Anyways, if you didn't know about it, the trade in program might be worth a look.
