All Droid Phones 1 Cent at Amazon

I'd warn buyers that this often means new phones are coming down the pike, but with Android, that's true every 17 minutes or so.

Ahhh, the fun of Black Friday sales.

I figured this would be the best place to ask.

What smartphone to buy? As a verizon guy I am way overdue for an upgrade. (basically 1+ year with my upgrade sitting out there) I am not the primary on my family account so I was never eligible for alot of these deals, til now!

This will be my first smartphone and in my research I have narrowed it down to the Incredible & Fascinate. Any thoughts from the BP peanut gallery? Are both of these phones so good compared to each other there really isn't a difference other than preference? Or do one of these phones have the edge over the other due to performance or maybe upgradabilty of the phone itself?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Are you dead set on upgrading now? I agree with jwins comment about new phones coming out.

Dell has the Incredible for one cent cheaper.

Well, kinda. I am not the type that needs the latest and greatest. So if new models are coming out soon, it's not a big deal for me. Especially since I would have to pay $150+ for them.

This seems like my one chance to get a decent phone for next to nothing. Seems like people that are not the primary person on the account get screwed for update deals. So these opportunities are rare.

Samsung has better specs and screen. I prefer HTC over Samsung by a mile, though I've heard the fascinate isn't awful like most samsung smartphones.

Have you typed without a physical keyboard? That is something I would test out extensively to make sure you can adjust to it.

Josh, do you know is the Verizon Mi-fi, hotspot thing is any good. I would just need it for an Ipad, and my laptop, which will almost never be online at the same time. I would just need it for browsing, and downloading movies, books, and music.

Be mindful of the 5GB cap. For downloading/streaming movies, you may run into a problem.

He is asking about using the MiFi.
I know what he's asking about. I have the mobile hot spot on my phone, and I don't see why anyone would use that feature - which has a 5 GB per month limit before usage charges apply - to download large media files that could just as easily be downloaded directly onto the phone. My Fascinate has a 16GB SD card, and most Droid phones have similar large memories that can be used to store big media files temporarily while awaiting transfer to a computer. Using this approach, the gig limits do not apply.

Verizon 4G Now Live, Area Speed Tests In
by Kevin Krause on December 6th, 2010

Verizon’s next-generation 4G LTE network went live yesterday, and for those of you wonder, yes. It is fast. We’ve just been forwarded some initial speed test results for the Washington DC metro area (just a hop, skip and a jump from our Baltimore home) and the numbers put Sprint’s WiMAX network to shame. The highest downlink speed achieved was 10.6 Mbps, while the lowest was 6.59Mbps. Compare that to Sprint’s highest of 2.62Mbps, while the lowest is hard to determine because it seems their WiMAX 4G coverage was a bit more sparse than Verizon’s LTE.

We have yet to verify these results, but rest-assured: we will be doing our own speed tests in the very near future. Too bad there is not a single handset available on the seemingly zippy network until sometime next year.
