Verizon & Android news

Need help (again). Got tired of ATTs lack of signal. They suck.

Just got the Droid X. Am I missing something or is it next to impossible to sync with Outlook?

Why is it that this phone thing just doesn't work? Fuck!!!!

Droids do not "sync" with Outlook; that is one of the key drawbacks, and is an unforgivable oversight on Google's part (this stuff just shouldn't be that hard). You can use gmail to sync calendars and contacts, but it's a convoluted process.

I'm strongly considering migrating over to a Windows 7 phone when Verizon starts to sell them, and to just swallow the equipment cost. (I have a Samsung Fascinate, which is a phenomenal piece of equipment but does not communicate very well with Windows.)

Also - Droid phones do not do email very well if you have a POP3 account. Getting email is very hit-or-miss. Not sure about IMAP or Exchange accounts since I don't have those. If RIM could develop a phone with the kind of rich user opportunities provided by Android, I'd be back into BlackBerry in a New York minute.

My school email at Missouri uses a active sync/exchange account and it works awesome. Contacts sync, email is pushed, and the calendar syncs as well.

How is the keyboard? It looks like the touch-pro-2 keyboard I've been waiting for.

I played with one while I was at the store and found the keyboard small. Much harder than the crackberrys.

I got the death flue on Friday and will start to play with the X now. I am still unsure if I am going to keep it now that I know that there is an issue with sync'ing with Outlook. From what I read I don't think it is a big issue when you are using an exchange server, it is an issue when it is a single user on Outlook. No idea why.

It looks like the best solution is to use Gmail, but that only works for the calender. You have to manually push for contacts. Not that big of a deal.

Check to make sure you have it set to sync under

Menu - settings - accounts and sync - google - sync contacts
Yeah, this is great until you find like 5 different entries in your phone for every contact. Really screws you up if you're trying to sync with a car, for example, that has a limit on number of contacts. (If you have the money, people, go for the BMW - the best car sync out there.)
