Value City Arena (official thread)

"I hope the girls team does well, but as a fan it's not fun to watch."

Your opinion. There are many thousands of opinions in this town, that totally disagree with that entry, and many, like myself, that believe, currently, it is the most "fun" sport to watch at this university.

We never have to deal with a coach who will not, by his very nature, be aggressive. Neither must we deal with the whims of "coming out early" and therefor, absolutely destroying the continuity of a team.

This team just aggressively won a preseason tournament 93-72 over a very excellent opponent. They did it by shooting 50% from the floor, 53% from 3, 83% from the line, with 21 assists, 2 blocks, 6 steals and 7 turnovers (how many turnovers?) 7.....only 7?.....yes 7. Of course, they also pulled down 40 of 66 rebounds while getting aggressively fouled 19 times.

I am very excited about this "fun" team.............. but then, of course, I actually watch them.

While I don't get into the women's game as much as a men's, I have to say that they probably play basketball in its purest form. Granted that you would not see many highlight reels from a women's game but fundamentally they are probably more sound than the men.

Seconded.

I know the men's three point line is back a few inches, but when you have somebody hitting 7 of 8 threes they are a basketball player. To be sure, Women's ball is a long way from the parity of the men and you do have more blow outs. But you also don't have folks sumo wrestling under the basket - which is not basketball.

Also there are many thousands of opinions in this town that totally agree with my entry.
More like many hundred thousands.

backabuck: "We never have to deal with a coach" DEAL WITH A COACH? Weak swipe at Tressel. Yeah, it's SOOO HARD to deal with him.

If you think girls basketball is more fun to watch than osu football, that's fine, but I am pretty sure that is a very very very small majority of people. I'd rather 'deal' with Tressel than deal with girls on the rag.

Champions bleed Scarlet and Gray. Gross.

I don't really get the motivation for jumping into the thread just to belittle an OSU team.

Rough Thanksgiving already? Tough times with the family?

Someone forgot to bring the sweet bbq? :p
Better than somebody belittling the football team...but that's just me. But good comeback. How original:p

Funny, I was just thinking of you. Matrix Reloaded is on AMC.

Eh, I'll do better next time.

I almost remember Reloaded... definitely not as much fun as the first one.

Then maybe all of these thousands of people should actually start going to the games so we don't need threads dedicated to why seats aren't being filled.

Look, most of us on this site support every Buckeye in every sport. For example, I have absolutely no interest in soccer, and I rooted like hell for the mens team when they had their run at the NC in 2007. Because they were Buckeyes. The same goes for the women's basketball team. I'm sure we are all rooting for them, but it's not a crime if someone says they don't find the sport to be very interesting.

I'll watch Reloaded...but the 3rd one, I don't even remember the name, is one of the worst movies ever made.

And I was reminded that I have to retract my statement. I too have gone and watched women play sports...why just a few days ago I was in Ann Arbor watching Ohio State play an all-girls team. Though it seemed that there were less Michigan fans there than their are at OSU women's basketball games.

But back on the point at hand...is Woman's basketball attendence really that low at OSU? Where is it compared to other Big Ten programs? One thing I've always hated about playing college sports at the Schott is that it is too big. I'd MUCH MUCH MUCH rather see a basketball game at St. John's. Talk about a home court advantage...that place would get louder than just about anywhere.

For the record this thread was not started to accuse anyone of anything.

The question of why attendance was low and its relationship to seating policy crept up in the Ladies thread. Since there is only one thread for that entire program I wanted to have some place else to address the negativity of that topic.

I think the University made a horrible decision in selecting the design of the Schott and has exacerbated the problem with poor seating policy. It hurts attendance at both men's and women's games.

If going beyond that to encourage folks to give a ladies game a try is wrong.....

I disagree with your thoughts on this particular women's team being boring, but I totally agree with this. For a smallish crowd, being in the Schott makes it seem even smaller and quieter.
