Value City Arena (official thread)

I hope when they are doing the wiring for the new scoreboard that they will seriously look into the wiring for the shot clocks. I am not an electrician but there were too many times last year when they had to stop the game, one time for about 15 minutes, in order to fix the shot clocks because they had quit working. You would think that they could do something to "backup" the wiring so they would not have to stop games to fix them especially in the front of national TV audiences. At times last year, it was almost embarrassing.

The artical also staes that they are going to install new transparent shot clocks and backboards, so I would think that they would also put in new wiring as well to avoid that fiasco again.

This will make the Schott so energetic, it will be even crazier when they shut the lights off and do their highlight display. I also think this will get fans a little more into the game and therefore provide a more intimidating environment for opponents.

About that new scoreboard . . .

The state-of-the-art one with the high-definition video boards that had it's coming-out party in Value City Arena last night?
I didn't notice because I have a monitor at my work station in the media section, but a few inconvenienced fans have told me the new board had no stats for the players. Rest assured, the problem will be rectified before the men's team's next game in Value City Arena, on Nov. 24 against Bowling Green. The regular-season opener next Thursday, remember, is in St. John Arena because a Reba McEntire-Kelly Clarkson concert booked the Schott first.
Some or all of the eight 6-foot-by-10-foot matrix-display boards above the video boards will have the players' stats on them by the Nov. 24 game, athletics department spokesman Dan Wallenberg told me today. He said the board's technicians had not had time to build in the feature before last night's game.

And to start it off, here is my theory on what is happening to Ladies BBall attendance.

The PSL seats are off limits to walk up ticket buyers.

The upper bowl is closed until you get up around 9k.

Once you get much over 3,000 folks start spilling over into the ends of the court. That is all they will sell you.

Those seats suck.

What is happening is that when interest in the ladies grows folks go up to give them a try. For their first game they are put at the end of the court. They have a bad experience and don't go back.

This isn't entirely theory. It happened precisely that way for two folks I tried to introduce to Ladies BBall about 5 years ago.

If there are only 3k there just move into the seats...go up to the hunington club and sit in the 2nd level seats that are mid court...

No one is going to stop you, unless you get a hard on usher, which then you just go to the next one...

Obviously the PSL people paid for the building to be built they are going to protect their seats, and they have enough money that is not a big deal if they just eat their tickets, but I don't understand why they don't give them the option to sell them back to the ticket office and then have the ticket office sell them...

I think they need to market better...

and last the seats on the end are not that bad, especially when talking about a smaller crowd, up and down as you like, room to stretch out, in and out as you like...

The ladies routinely got 6-8k in St John with much less of a team.

This is not only a good team - they play really fun basketball.
I understand what you're saying about the seating and totally agree with you though when you say that they routinely got 6-8K at St. John I Have To disagree. Maybe when the better teams came to town but it certainly was not routinely.

The Athletic department as needed to revamp the ticket policy for both men's and women's for about 30 years. I can remember games at St. John that were not sold out during Winter break. I think they really need to look at their ticket prices when they played lesser teams. Perhaps that will lure more of the general public to the games.

St. John would be a much better facility for the women's game and sometimes even the men's game.
