Utah Utes (official thread)

God damn. What a fragile fanbase.
Fans being fragile means nothing. A team losing both lines of scrimmage to OU(traditionally a finesse team) and to scUM is concerning . Not to mention the DL got dominated in a lot of the wins ..Minnesota and others. The names on the DL aren’t changing much so improvement has to come from within. Utah will be a test ..pass fail for the DL. I just want a passing grade not expecting domination by our OL or DL.

In 2013 Meyer lost his last two games. In 2014 he lost his second game of the season. Three losses in four games. Unheard of for Ohio State yet they rebounded. Three of Meyers nine losses in four games. The program marched on.

I don’t have the angst about all this that my good friend Jax has.
UM had a pretty good resume including an undefeated season with a team that was left for dead by the previous staff. Day has Clemson … which we see now was prepared to fail.

I think there are 2 things that make this different…first, Meyer had the credibility to earn the benefit of the doubt based on his lengthier past and the 2 rings. Second, it’s the overall trajectory and perception of the program.

Meyer was in year 2-3 without a B1G title or bowl appearance in year 1….that stretch basically got the temperature check of where the program lies as it pertains to championship level then. Day is in year 3 (ish, granted) with multiple B1G title appearances (2-0, 0-2 ATS) bowl/playoff appearances (1-2 record) and appears to have a program that’s somewhat backsliding, or at least isn’t progressing.

All of that said, it’s not easy to progress when you’re damn near at the top. However that’s why he’s paid $6M+ a year to figure out how.

Utah presents a perfect opportunity for Day to right the ship and to springboard into a 22 title run…but it also is an opportunity for Ohio State to be manhandled for the 4th time within a calendar year.

Since I can't argue with anything you said, I will point out that the Rose Bowl is on Jan 1 so it won't be 1 calendar year.

Oh FFS, no one is fragile. We are all just pointing out what the perception would be if OSU gets dominated again. If fucking Utah runs them over like Alabama, Oregon and dUMb did there is going to be a shitstorm, and it won't be from me. That is a fact.
Mhmm. Oh noes!!!! Utah is coming!!!! We got pushed around by Michigan so now we're awful!!!!

For fucks sake, indeed. We sound like Bama fans when they didn't get into the CFP. How many teams are there in division 1 football? Because that number minus like 2 is the number of programs that would swap places with Ohio State. But we have to whine and cry for the next week+ about how fucking Utah is gonna come in and push us around, and what that ultimately means for Day as a coach and the program as a whole.

Teams lose games. So fucking what. The coping mechanisms this fan base has are off the charts annoying.

The loss was part of a trend. It wasn't some out of the blue, one off shocker. People are concerned with the trend, not a one time thing.

Oregon beat this team, Penn State and Nebraska came close and we all saw what happened with tsun. All had a very similar fact pattern.

130 in FBS. Are you an old fogey calling it “division 1”?

Oregon and Michigan were sandwiches with a bunch of beatdowns in between....to the point where we had the Heisman favorite at one point. I'm not seeing a pattern yet, and the best part about CFB is that it evolves every year, so you get to fix any issues each team has. We didn't piss down our legs at the sight of the next Iowa or Purdue.....but because Michigan had the perfect storm, we're now....what, a middling ACC team? MAC level? My eyes hurt from rolling.

Don't forget the extra piece of bread on that sandwich from Bama humiliating OSU to start the calendar year and please don't try to act like they beat down everyone in between with no worries at all. Minny, Penn State and Nebraska gave them all they wanted. The pattern was similar in each, if the offense didn't get out to an insurmountable lead quick and force the other team to play one handed, then the dogshit OSU defense was promptly exposed.

You can stop the discomfort by not rolling them so hard at a bunch of hyperbolic nonsense that no one but you has said.

tsun wasn't a one time fluke loss. It followed the same pattern as Oregon and, damn near, Penn State and Nebraska. Utah awaits and they are very similar to tsun. It really isn't that hard to understand why people are concerned about that.

I don't see how Michigan and Penn St were similar at all. The offense did what it wanted between the twenties....just couldn't function on short yardage against the peds. The defense did a fine job. Against Michigan they struggled in both trenches, and got pushed around. If you want to say they weren't the same as playing Maryland....ok.

I also don't give a shit about this supposed pattern with one game remaining, and a new DC coming in. As if we're doomed to be some soft Pac12 garbage team forever based on....let's be honest....just the sting of the Michigan game. MSU plays just like Michigan and we kicked their dicks off. Guess we forgot to be soft then.
