USC vs. OSU: A fun Idea for a Prediction Thread

Why OSU wins: The players and coaches will not be bothered with answering questions throughout the week about whether Beanie will be ready to play against Troy.

Why OSU loses: the guys in the trenches remain on the SoCal beaches.

Why USC wins: Sanchez remains calm as his knee is being twisted.

Why USC loses: too much pressure by the OSU D front on Sanchez andcontain on the USC RBs.

OSU 24 USC 17

OSU win: USC move the ball, but just can't punch it in the end zone because the D makes big plays.

OSU loss: No offense outside of a partially healthy Beanie.

USC wins: Big plays early, hold on without being threatened.

USC loses: Sanchez proves to be prone to TO's.

Final prediction: USC 27-14.

I agree about the need to hit them hard but SC does actually do the half back toss hail mary play. We gotta stay assignment sound or it's going to give them too many easy ones. Another thing is that Miami was able to collapse the pocket rushing just four players and freed up the linebackers to make plays in space. They are good.

Here's the deal:

If it takes a gimmicky fuckin play like that to win, so be it. That means they probably did everything else right, and USC had to pull some shit, but whatever.

What I want, is to dispell this Big Ten slowness "theory." I don't want to sit back and have WR's, TE's, and RB's find holes in zone coverage. I want man-to-man press, I want physicality, I want WR's being hit on the LOS, I want the RB's being hit in the backfield, I want the D-line to push the O-Line back. I want people initiating contact. I'm tired of seeing tOSU wait, that is not their game. I want nothing left on the field. I want balls to the wall, then I can be happy win or lose. But I don't want any reservations, because then people start asking questions and wonder "What could have happened?" If tOSU is flying around, playing sound fundamental football, hitting people hard, but still gets beat, then some questions have been answered. If it comes back to this zone stuff being beat to death with underneath passes and draw plays, it all goes back to where it began.

This team needs to find it identity again, and it needs to knock someone on their ass. That's the only way to get everyone off their backs.

Go Bucks.

OSU:

Why they will win: O-Line and D-Line will finally decide to play some pysical football. I.E No pulling the guards and center or 3rd and short..They will hit someone. DE's will not get too far up field and DT's will collapse the pocket

Why they will lose: The above will not happen and Todd will play like the Todd of old in big games.

USC:

Why the will win: Home, talent loaded, great program. 26-1 vs out of conference opponents... WOW

Why the will lose: They will be frustrated playing against better competition in only their second game. They played a [censored] poor Virginia team but will realize it is not as easy vs good competition and become frustrated and deflated.

Final Score prediciton:

I'll be damned to predict against the Buckeyes!

USC-24
OSU-27

whats wrong with pulling guards? if you sustain your blocks it shouldnt be an issue...

Nothing is wrong with it... just on short yardage my personal preference right or wrong is to play a little more physical and go hat to hat and try to impose their will... Perhaps Bollman doesn't think this O-Line can do that so I will just have to trust the coaches.

You mean "impose" their will...and you are correct. Pulling is for 1st and 2nd down, at least in the fans' eyes.

Four threads worth of great answers really drives home the point that most fans rightly believe that this game will be won in the trenches. Sure, Sanchez, Wells, or Boeckman might have big games but that will depend largely on the type of protection they get from their O Line and the type of pressure they face from the opposing defense.
One thing I will say though is that I think playcalling will play a key role in this game. I was talking to my dad about this a few days ago and he was commenting how striking the difference had been in OSU's play when Tressell started calling the BCS games close to the vest. He then reminded me of the game in Ann Arbor a few years ago when Tress had the Bucks line up five wide from the two yard line. THAT is the type of stuff Tressell needs to bring to LA. He can't let the USC defensive coordinators sit back and go "Okay...first down. It's gonna be Beanie up the gut." OSU needs to mix it up, get everyone involved and keep the USC defense on their heals.

Ironically, it was the conservative playcalling that led to a national title, not the new sexy five wide stuff.

USC Wins: Because they have a talented Defensive Backfield that can make plays

USC Losses: Because no one in LA really gives a shit about USC Football to give them a home field advantage.

OSU Losses: Because we give the lead up late in the 3rd and continue to go against what worked for us earlier on.

OSU Wins: Because we have explosive WRs that can make plays and a hungry D Backfield that is ready to explode nationally (after coming back from injury/suspension). Our team is tired of being talked about after the LSU loss and the way we played against Ohio U.

OSU - 39
USC - 27

I would argue that you don't need much offense when you're fielding an NFL caliber defense, which the Bucks were in 2002.

Sure, but I would argue that a conservative offensive scheme cuts down on the number of turnovers and is a good way to control the clock, which are the two areas that have killed us in the last two title games. Compensating for the defense this way is way more effective than to simply hope to outgun the other team.

OSU wins because they rise to the occassion and this is why the first rounders came back to Cbus.

USC loses because The Ohio State and its fans are the only ones who beleve they can win.
