USC Trojans (official thread)

Haden is like the chick that has a thing for assholes. The Seahawks are done as a Super Bowl contender. Maybe they can throw a pile of money to get Pete to come back and start violating rules again.

Setting aside my humorous suggestion that the Ol' Ballcoach is coming to LA, seriously, one has to wonder who Haden will hire to replace Drunky.

Based on their previous hires, I'm thinking George O'Leary, Mike Price and Ty Willingham are going to get interviews.

They are trying to lure this guy out of retirement.

Haden fires Kiffin on the tarmac a couple hours after a loss. Fires Sark via press release. I'm not exactly sure who has the bigger problem.

That makes me think USC might not have followed the firing procedure (ala what happened with Jim O'Brien)....

The search for a new head coach is on at USC (and USC for that matter) and folks have already been mentioning Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly as the favorite for the job. The folks at Bovada feel a bit differently. Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham is the odds-on favorite to be named the next head coach of the USC Trojans. Kelly are Boise State head coach Brian Harsin are tied for the second betting favorite for the job.

Bovada released their odds for the next head coach of the Trojans on Tuesday, and it includes some very familiar names. Though considered long shots for the job, Bovada included Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly, Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin, Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio and TCU head coach Gary Patterson among their betting options. Washington’s Chris Petersen is also included in the mix, as is current interim head coach Clay Helton. Helton actually has better odds to win the job over the previously mentioned power program options.

Odds for Next USC Head Coach

  • Kyle Whittingham +350
  • Chip Kelly +600
  • Brian Harsin+600
  • Tom Herman +700
  • Justin Fuente +700
  • Clay Helton +800
  • Jack Del Rio +800
  • Chris Petersen +900
  • Brian Kelly +900
  • Kevin Sumlin +1100
  • Gary Patterson +1100
  • Mark Dantonio +1500

This article also mentions Herman as one of the top 5 candidates:

Tom Herman, Houston head coach
Houston is quickly becoming a 21st century Cradle of Coaches, having launched Baylor's Art Briles and Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin into the stratosphere. Through just five games, Herman looks every bit the part of Houston's next rising star.

Herman has been around the map, most recently as offensive coordinator at Ohio State, and he's a graduate of Los Angeles-area California Lutheran University, not far from the campus of USC. His wide-open offensive strategy, built around a dual-threat quarterback, is a departure from tradition at USC. But given that their last conference championship came seven years, change could do wonders for the Trojans.

Moreover, the end goal at USC is always the same: national titles. Herman knows that process well, having coordinated Ohio State's prolific offense on its march to the first College Football Playoff title.

I think Chip Kelly makes the most sense here. Whittingham would make a lot of sense as well but if they whiff on Kelly I think they should go all out for Sumlin and throw some serious Saban money at him.

Fuente won't get this job but he'll get a great gig this year, doing too many amazing things not to. Herman will likely need to wait another year or two which is probably just fine for him....he is raking in the talent on the defensive side of the ball and it'll just be a matter of time before he's at Texas or A&M (if Sumlin moves on).
