USC 44, Arizona State 24 (final)

I sure hope that USC can start pulling away in this one. Not good to give ASU a shot in the 4th quarter. I never thought I would find myself pulling for USC, but Ohio State can't afford Arizona State to win, it would take critical BCS % points away from us, whereas if they lose, we will probably gain some from voters and computers who had ASU ahead of us but behind West Virgina. It's interesting that every individual vote matters so much, but if things unfold a certain way, it may come down to only a handful of voters deciding if it's WV or OSU.

I was looking at this stuff earlier to see just what the effects might be of this game. If you look at the percentage scores for the human polls, you'll notice that the gap between Ohio State and Arizona State is as large or larger than the gap between any other two adjacently ranked contenders. That says to me that Arizona State is likely not stealing any votes from Ohio State at this point. Additionally, it's such a relatively large gap that it would take a conscious effort on the part of voters to move Arizona State past Ohio State. I don't see that happening, even if ASU pulls off the comeback and gets the win over USC. However, a comeback win over USC - which is looking more unlikely by the moment - would mean that ASU might start to steal the votes that they're not stealing now. Not enough to leap OSU, but enough to hurt the Buckeyes' position relative to West Virginia.

Arizona State is currently stealing points from Ohio State with the computers, but they're doing the same to West Virginia. I think the relative boost that Ohio State would receive from Arizona State dropping would be minimal. Missouri would be the ones who stand to gain the most from the computers from an Arizona State loss, but it would be a drop in the bucket compared to the boost the could get from beating Kansas.

God, I can't STAND USC!

I would really want to see a Rose Bowl involving a Pac-10 team not named the Trojans.

(I have to go back to Washington State a few years ago to find the last non-USC Pac-10 Rose Bowl Team)

I REALLY hope Oregon can do their part on Saturday.

UPDATE:

Yet ANOTHER USC touchdown- 37-17.

If they get to a Rose Bowl after what they went through against Stanford and Oregon... that would just eat at me.

OK, I'm not familiar with the way the PAC-10 does these things, but why would USC get a Rose Bowl bid over Oregon? Assuming tonight's score holds up and everybody beats who they're supposed to, there would be three teams at the top each with two conference losses. USC will have beaten Arizona State, but Oregon will have beaten BOTH of them.

That unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was ridiculous. Since when is flexing after a sack a penalty?
Since the State of California elected a former body-builder as Governor apparently.

Fuck you, Keyshawn. "I wanna see USC play Ohio State. A Big Ten team against the speedy Pac 10". Wow, every conference except ours has speed... :roll1:
That was exactly the kind of statement I'd expect from Keyshawn.

Be careful what you wish for.

The commentators said that Oregon would have to lose and USC would have to win out in order for USC to get to the Rose Bowl...

Oregon is still in the lead for the Pac10, but people are basically saying with Dixon gone, that Oregon will lose to UCLA or Oregon State. So, if Brady Leaf can pull out a couple victories, then Oregon will go to the Rose Bowl, however, if they lose one and USC wins here and beats UCLA, then USC will go.

I do love how the media has already sent USC.

I can explain.

If USC beats the Sun Devils tonight and UCLA next Saturday

OR

Oregon loses one of their last two games

Then USC will have pulled off the greatest Rose Bowl heist since Nebraska.

Remember Nebraska a few years ago? This would be similar for me.

(I got a little carried in the Oregon/Arizona game thread, but now this is a game with USC involved)
