USA Today Coaches Poll is out

They closed horribly last year. It's quite evident that without Edwards they lose against a meager MSU team. (MSU) They got destroyed by a mobile QB in the first half, then mostly just a rushing attack in the second. (OSU) They get destroyed in every aspect of The Game. (UT) And then they cannot adjust their D to stop the obvious threat, and later claim they were focusing on stopping Benson, who was probably hurt all game.

Good work coaches. Maybe you should put auburn up there too?

Coaches, you mean.

It hardly matters who's ranked where though. These things have a way of working themselves out. I say let OSU fly "under the radar" We find it absurd to be #9, but then, we follow OSU a crap load closer than Steve Spurrier does - and rumor is he gave Duke a vote.

Slightly Underrated:
6. LSU 9-3 1,109 16
I understand they have a very favorable schedule with only 4 away games and the toughest of those being at Bama, but still, the Tigers have to get over new staff growing pains to defeat Arizona St and Tennessee in weeks 2 and 3...then travel to Mississippi St in week 4 for a definite trap game.

I was thinking LSU should have been 9-11...

Call me crazy, but I like being right where we are. We won a national championship a few years ago starting off the year ranked #13. We have no where to go but up from here, and there's no doubt people will see how good this team is when we beat Texas and Iowa out of the gate. This team (as we all know) has NO trouble getting media attention, and we will get all we can handle after we beat Texas in the "showdown of the year". Don't worry fellas- we're where we wanna be

I'm with Oiler on this one, actually.

What Les Miles does with Saban's talent is unknown, but LSU could be really damn good. I ran this spreadsheet thingy based on their returning players and schedule etc and they ended up #2. I don't think they're number 2, as my spreadsheet didn't take in to account intangibles, but I'd say they are legit top 5 at leats to start the show.

When you lose to Texas, if it is close, you should be able to climb right back up with your two other opps against Iowa and Michigan. By the end of the year your loss against Texas won't be that bad. however, it is never good to lose one at home, that always seems to prevent teams from being ranked the highest one loss team. But your strength of schedule is huge.

Do you think that the game on Sept 10th would have nearly as much deserved hype and excitement if we had a playoff system? I like polls and bowls for now.

Good point. The two of you are more "statistically" sound in your assessment while mine is more of a gut feeling...

I'll concede the point, but I'll still stick to my instincts on the Tigers.

21 - if you ask me where they'll end up, (LSU that is) I wouldn't say 3, that's for sure. I always go back and forth on how to rank a team, how they'll start (or how they are NOW) v. how I think they'll end up. Niether way is necessarily better than the other, I've decided.

In any case, I wouldn't be surprised if LSU dropped 3 or 4 games. They've got pleanty of talent to go around, but as we've discussed in other threads, what Miles might do with that talent is unknown. I wasn't particularly impressed with his work at OK St. Not bad, but not great, you know.

My First post on this site. As a Cal grad and Pac10 grad I have one thing to say:

The Pac10 is with you!! Beat UT! I will be watching the game with a Ohio St. alum here in Fort Collins where I will delve into some cincy chili and longhorn steak.
The Big12 does not understand the history of our two conferences and think we are both overrated and pussy-ish. My Big12 friends get mad at me for my support of the Big10(they just dont get it.) Well, well UT: WELCOME TO THE HORSESHOE!
JUST WIN BABY AND THE PAC 10 WILL CELEBRATE WITH YOU!
