I disagree that 21-14 is a "huge scare." I agree on the 1999 game, but I guess I still don't see how we deserved this comment:

Since 1997, Michigan has lost only once to a truly unworthy Notre Dame team. I've never heard anyone else intimate that Michigan-ND is any different from your typical rivalry game in a way that makes the Big 10 look bad. Upsets happen in rivalries. What's the big deal?

Its not that big a deal to B10/midwestern fans who understand this concept and follow ND/scUM a little more closely.

However, the national perception is dictated by the national media(ESPN and friends) and often the perception does not mesh with reality. I guarantee you can ask the average SEC fan about OSU and Michigan and all they think is UM always wins. They have no concept of recent history, just outdated sound bites from ESPN. I would say the same thing if they asked me about UT and Florida..the Gators have Phil's number. Now, is that true the past 5 or 6 years? I have no idea. How about Auburn and Georgia or Alabama vs Auburn?

Same thing happens to you guys regarding ND. The loss last year to a BAD ND team gets mixed in with all LLLoyds' other OOC choke jobs and maybe a game is closer than it "should" be and next thing you know...viola, you cant beat ND. Also, the national perception is ND has been bad for a while now and that UM is supposed to be a perrinial power, mix in that 3-3 record since '97 and you can see where the casual fan comes up with the idea(warranted or not).

I don't think anyone really thinks UT is better than USC. It's just politics.

I was just thinking about this, My guess would be that the two #1 votes came from Mack and his Brother...We know that they have 0 problem doing anything to help the longhorns

LSU might not be looking so great now...

LSU rusher Broussard out for season

BATON ROUGE — Tailback Alley Broussard, LSU's leading returning rusher, will miss the 2005 season after suffering a knee injury at practice Saturday.

"I feel really bad for Alley," LSU coach Les Miles said Saturday night. "He worked so hard this summer and put himself in a position to have a great fall. I'm disappointed for Alley as well as the entire team. We were really looking forward to seeing him in the backfield this fall."

Miles did not specify the type of knee injury, but witnesses at practice said it looked like the dreaded torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) that usually ends seasons.

As Broussard was being helped from the field, an assistant coach said, "It doesn't look good."

Just last week, Broussard talked about having an expanded role for the 2005 season. "I want to be more like Joe Addai," Broussard said. "I want to catch the ball more and pass block."

Addai was third on the team in receptions last season with 26 for 294 yards and four touchdowns. Broussard caught only one pass for 10 yards.

"I mean, I have great hands," Broussard said. "People don't know that. This year I want people to see that I have hands."

Listed behind Broussard on the depth chart are Justin Vincent, a junior, and Shyrone Carey, a senior.

"This now creates an opportunity for Justin and Shyrone to step up and get some additional carries," Miles said.

LSU still has Addai and Vincent. Addai is a good all-around back, and Justin Vincent is a solid runner, even though his being touted as a Heisman candidate at the beginning of the 2004 season was rather over-the-top.

Vincent had 1001 yards as a frosh in 2003, including solid games against Auburn, Georgia (SEC champ game), and Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl. But he only had 76 carries for 322 yards last year, in a sophomore slump year.
