Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

I would kill to have a hidden-cam of Urban watching last night’s game.

He hand-picked Day and this has to be eating him alive.
Urban was nepotism personified. Him hand picking Day to succeed him was not surprising. What’s disappointing is Gene seemingly not doing a more thorough vetting and interview process before hiring him.

Ryan Day has 8 losses now in 5 years…

He figured out the defense and he’ll have an opportunity to figure out the offense.

This “oh we made a mistake” is ridiculous.

Yes the trend isn’t great right now but he can absolutely turn this around.

I guess we’re going to infer from my post that I’m saying Gene made a mistake.

Actually what I was saying is Gene had an opportunity to go through a process to find the best coach for the Buckeyes. He chose not to do that obviously. Was that a good decision? I think the jury is still out.

Yes I understood that so I’m taking that like you’re saying we made a mistake by going with Ryan Day.

We’ve been fortunate guys to have not made a bad hire yet. Look what happened to Texas or Tennessee for example. We are one bad hire away from taking a nose dive just like them.

Who could we have got though?

We’ve actually made two bad hires in my lifetime. Cooper and now Day. Neither one has turned the program into Texas while neither has been good enough for OSU.

I think the mistake was not exploring all options before making a decision. There would've been a number of experienced head coaches interested in the OSU job. To my knowledge none were interviewed.

Urban recommended Day and he got the job. That's not doing due diligence. Now we're six years in and still asking questions about Day.

Thanks for reiterating
