I would love to believe the first part of this statement but you know its not true... There would be a large part of the fan base (mainly tee-shirt alumni) that would flip their shit if he got back into coaching. Our fan base would be every bit as bad as others if this would to happen.

I don't think this is about recharging your battery. Surgical procedures are improving, but he has intimated that he would not want to have additional surgery. Even the better surgical procedures are not much more effective. What is clear is that this arachnoid cyst will interfere with his ability to recruit in future. What is more clear is that it impaired his ability to be himself and perceive himself to be effective.

I guess the bottom line is: how much is enough? Professionally, I think there is really little more he could accomplish that would improve his position in coaching all time. He will be in the Hall of Fame. Financially, he most certainly must have enough to move back to the South and live on the beach the rest of his life. An announcing gig maybe? I just don't think a guy 56 or 57 years old really wants to gird up the loins of endeavor and live the 24/7 life of a college coach. In fact, I think he'd be a fool to continue.

God bless him and thanks for all he did for Ohio State.

The point is that he might choose to do it again. And if he does, good for him.

Health was a component of it. It wasn’t the sole factor. If he wanted to stay on another year it was on the table.

It’s inaccurate to state health is why he retired. It was personal health + program health + how the summer unraveled.

FWIW, Stan Van Gundy is on ESPN radio saying now, that although he doesn’t know Meyer personally, he felt yesterday was the culmination of an administration that didn’t have his back. That he feels the retirement “is real” for the moment based on everything that happened over the course of the year but he’d be shocked if Meyer isn’t coaching again relatively soon.....Especially when concrete job offers start rolling in.

I know SVG specializes in basketball, but I do believe there is truth in his assessment and knowledge of the situation.

And if it turns out to be the case that the reasons Meyer left weren’t solely health related, I hope Drake is shown the door in record speed.

Bingo. Reading between the lines on the second of the three, I think he knew Day was likely gone at the end of this season, he has the utmost faith in Day, and he knew that the odds of someone the quality of Day agreeing to come to OSU to be his successor in the next 2-3 years (when he may have preferred to retire) are slim to none.

He could mean golf, or boat racing, or building ships in a bottle.

It’s 100% possible since he’s done it before, but Ohio State was the right time and right situation. Ohio State is a Top 3 job in college football, if not Top 1. Big budgets, big resources, big results. USC? Maybe if he wants a house on the beach and nice weather? Notre Dame? It’s unique but it’s not Ohio State. He’s reached the apex of the sport at this level. Anything else would be Mack Brown going back to UNC.

But I bet he would be the best damn miniature ship in a bottle maker around.

I wish he would just go coach the local high school team. No pressure but can still enjoy coaching.
