Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

I am not calling for Meyer to step down, get fired, or anything of the sort, but Ohio State shouldn't have games like Iowa 2017 and Purdue 2018. I'm not referring to losses, I'm talking about embarrassing blowouts to teams that will end up with 5 losses. Teams that turn right around the next week and lose.

Right. In our "bad" loses we are at least within 14 points. 2011 Miami was 18 points. Even in that year, the many loses were close. You have to go back to 2008 with USC and 2006 with Florida to find real blowouts. At least those were good teams. Although there was Iowa in 2004, but they did finished ranked #11 that year.

I went back to 2000 for these stats. Anything in the John Cooper years didn't exist.

Some thoughts.
Stress can indeed be a killer. My dealings with the Mother in Law from Hell has taught me such.
And the" Florida" Urban Meyer is not who we have now. For better or worse. Mostly better tho.
The Big Ten owes Urban a debt of gratitude for bringing it back to a high level.
Let's just appreciate what we have in "Ohio State"Urban Meyer.
Well if Ohio State UFM means a 30 point loss to a double digit under dog every year. Then No thanks.

As was pointed out I think the arrogance of this staff is what does us in. They think we can just continue to run the same material every game and every year while no one can make a game of it. Well we are wrong.

If we don't game plan, continue to evolve, and coach our players hard this will continue to happen. We have the talent! We just need to stay a step ahead coaching wise now. IMO, we have stopped pushing the envelope coaching wise.

Well-stated.

As has been pointed out, teams will make us their Bowl game and go all out to win physically and emotionally and that is unsustainable for the week after. That is not on our coaches. Now that being said the point total of those loses is on the team and our coaches being exhausted also for the effort put out to win games like the recent Ped State incredable one point wins. These are, after all just kids playing and not grown men. And those 2 Ped State wins were incredable, odds defying wins against pretty good teams. We do need to take care of business this year. Beating a highly ranked scUM would be lovely.

I agree here...……...The coaches go all out trying to teach the basic offensive and defensive schemes but when the TEAM does not execute on the basics that they were taught, then the efforts are all but down the drain. I don't like the Idea of sports media people dubbing a kid - a 5 point level or a 4 point level.
What purpose does that serve ? Is it a Recruiting tool for coaches to use ? And what does it do to a kids Ego when he reads that he has been dubbed a 5 star level player coming straight out of high school ? To me its puts a lot of un-necessary pressure on players to keep up that standard that are suppose to be performing under. Like you said...……..These are after all, just KIDS playing and not grown men.

It is obviously part of a business model designed to make money by selling subscriptions to college football fans.

If you're a guy who has had fawning local attention, media and otherwise, since about age 15; is getting invitations, left-and-right, to various national events sponsored by groups like Nike, Under Armour, and the US Army; and is getting scholarship offers and near daily contact from the biggest college football programs in the country, your self-regard is probably not hinging on whether you get a 4-star or 5-star ranking from Rivals or 247.

URBAN MEYER ON RETIREMENT RUMORS: “I PLAN ON COACHING”

98259_h.jpg

"I plan on coaching," Meyer said when he was asked if he would return next season.

When asked if he could definitely say he would return as Ohio State's head coach next season, Meyer offered a simple, definitive response: "Yes."

"I want Ohio State to be successful in the worst way," Meyer explained. "I don't want people to worry about me."

When asked if there's any truth to the observation that the games have been getting to him, Meyer joked, "the games have been getting to me for 30 years."

Entire article: https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio...meyer-on-retirement-rumors-i-plan-on-coaching

Urban is only 54 years old. His current contract goes through the 2022 season. Baring any major health issues and/or getting totally pissed off at Michael Drake or Gene Smith, I can see him coaching here for at least another 8-10 years. Look at his record, i.e. Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, and Ohio State; he has been an extremely sucessful head coach everywhere he has been and there is no reason to believe that it won't continue. I do thnk Ohio State will be his last coaching job though. If he retires from coaching sooner he'll probably just go back to a TV sports network analysis job.

That fact is: Ohio State was/is extremely lucky/fortunate to get him (and still have him) as the head football coach.

The linked article doesn't have the video, but his "definitive response" was less than enthusiastic....IMO

You know. I think its the cheese. I can't put my finger on it. Wouldn't want to.

But, I see it first thing in the morning. Last four weeks or so. Things just seem a lot harder than they were in the past. A little more bark than bite and maybe even a bit disoriented.

It's not like nothing is happening and I think I've turned the corner by changing my regimen.

Less cheese and I think I'll greet the morning with more enthusiasm and be back to my regular self.
