Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

I'd love to see him try his hand at NFL, but fear what potential staff he may pick off OSU's current roster. Not sure if coach Mick has any desire to go to NFL, but he'd be one to watch. I could see Meyer wanting Pantoni in some type of an operations role. A lot of our position coaches (Hartline, Mattison, Kevin Wilson) would be ones to watch as well.

I really hope he wouldn't make any moves to hurt tOSU. In a perfect world he would hire away good assistants from other programs. Being an NFL head coach has advantages over college since it's more about drafting than recruiting. I think Urban is smart enough and a good enough coach that he can adapt, but it is a culture shock. Saban had NFL experience, but realized college was the better place to be. I think Urban would lean to assistants with NFL experience, but he has some former assistants that are probably looking for redemption as an NFL position coach or coordinator.

Here’s my tin foil hat theory... maybe Meyer is just running around feigning interest in a bunch of NFL jobs so that they don’t move in to plan B (or lower) options until Harbaugh signs his contract extension at Michigan.
I love the idea of Urban being bored in retirement and using the extra time to fuck with Michigan/Harbaugh/Herman, etc.

I don’t think Urban is stubborn to the point he’d try and run his JT Barrett/Tim Tebow scheme in NFL. I think he’d identify a strong OC to pair with Trevor Lawrence, and be more willing to push ball downfield.

I also think he’s a top notch talent evaluator. He’d have his hands full in what he inherits in Jacksonville (or the Jets for that matter) but if he were given the GM duties, or at least power to make his own draft selections, I think he’d knock it out of the park. While he can’t recruit, he now gets to hand-pick his guys. If Urban decided he didn’t want to coach, I actually think it’d be smart for a team like Jacksonville to consider him in a GM type role.

Per PFT's Mike Florio, it's become the "worst-kept secret in NFL circles that the Jaguars' coaching job will go to Meyer if he wants it." NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported two days ago that Meyer "expects" to replace Doug Marrone. $12 million is a gargantuan sum, but Baylor's Matt Rhule landed $9 million per year from the Panthers with nothing even approaching Meyer's track record at Ohio State and Florida. Jon Gruden, of course, brings home $10 million per year to go 7-9. If Meyer fails to materialize in Jacksonville, money probably won't be the reason.

In other words, he doesn't really want to coach the Jaguars.

Just sayin': The salaries of the coaches do not count against the team's salary cap. $12M isn't all that "out of the question" to the NFL billionaire boys club, i.e. the owners.

I like him to win in Jacksonville or the NFL in general, but, hearing way too much that the owner in Jacksonville is getting a Jerry Jones attitude where he wants to make all final decisions about roster and personnel. That kind of meddling could be the death of Urban. Hoping the leakage of that salary demand reaches Fox studios and they make a move to keep him.
