Since these are the jerseys they'll be wearing into Ohio Stadium, it's a good thing no other school is following Buffalo's lead and putting the entire school name in huge letters:

My hunch is that they are using the athletic program to brand the university as a whole as "New York" and that the rest will eventually fall away unless there's a huge outcry from Stony Brook, Binghamton et al.

The school has publicly stated that's the plan.

If you go to their board you'll find comment after comment referring to themselves as the "University of New York" or just "New York". They seem to believe that playing Ohio State on national TV will help springboard them into an eventual ACC or even B1G offer based on the exposure. lol
