Yeah, that's a chrome facemask.

Today the Hoosiers unveiled five new helmet designs to complement the old reliable "IU" logo. That's more helmets than 2012 wins. Every single one will be worn at least once this upcoming season, and they range from staid to retro to the freaking state flag (photo gallery here). But we can't take our eyes off this shiny crimson and silver look.

At the official reveal, the players reacted as players are contractually obligated to do at these things: they freaked out like Oprah had just given them all new cars. But you can sense them dying inside.

The Wildcats introduced the new threads with a video launch on their website Monday and reactions were mixed. Most of the comments were necessarily centered around the uniforms as a whole, but rather the numbers, which create a gradient look as they stream from red to blue or blue to red depending on the jersey.

Arizona actually received a waiver from the NCAA to introduce these jerseys since an NCAA rule going into effect for the 2013 season states that numbers must "be of one solid color that itself is clearly in distinct contrast with the color of the jersey, irrespective of any border around the number.?
