Southern Miss unveils fan-voted alternate helmet

When you've gone a jaw-dropping 0-12 and been forced to sell home games to make ends meet in the wake of firing the guy who coached you to that 0-12 season, you probably have some serious ground to make up with fans.

As part of that ground-making-up effort, at the end of May Southern Miss allowed fans to vote on which of four designs they would like to see become the team's new gold alternate helmet. The fans selected this option, and Tuesday the Golden Eagles equpiment Twitter feed sent out a photo of the finished product:

Good move ousting Jeff Bower. Southern Miss forced out their Glen Mason and are learning the grass wasn't greener on the other side.

Saban rebuilding LSU had a lot to do with the Southern Miss decline since they couldn't get players like Patrick Surtain anymore, but still ... Bower didn't wake up one morning and just forget how to coach. Some schools need to realize that 8-4 is their ceiling.
