Thats what i'm saying I knew Herron would be a tough guy to play against as a scout teamer.... To me I know I could get killed for this but here it goes.. Saine doesn't seem like a good fit as a running back to me for some reason? When he ran the ball it seemed like he was running up our offensive lines backs all game long, and wasn't following blocks to explode through the holes. His speed is such a weapon and I don't think he used it like he could've, but as a freshman he'll improve that. You can tell when a position comes naturally to a player for sure. For example the past few great running backs here are naturals when it came to the position. MoC,Pittman, and now Chris Wells are naturals at toting the rock. When they get the ball everything to them is simple and they KNOW they will find the right hole and they know where to take the ball. Then there are the ones who don't look as natural at the position like Lydell Ross, Maurice Hall, MoW, and B.Saine. Thats not to say they won't work on some things and get better at running the ball or anything, but rather for whatever reason it doesn't seem like they know what to do when they have the ball. A natural to me has qualities that can't be practiced and can't be improved through exercise. Like Vision, when to cut, when to juke, and when to know to just get the yards you can.

I think B.Saine will be a BIG part of our offense but he's shown he's most effective right now as a reciever. He had success in the beginning of the year against Washington, but to me he struggles to find that crease. I like Boom's vision in his HS video and the things that can't be taught. He's definatly got the build, and skill set to be a very big contributor for the bucks. Once Beanie/MoW leave I think Boom will be the main man with Saine spelling him. I do believe Saine will be on the field just as much as Herron, but in a different capacity.
I disagree with everything stated in this post.

thats fine.... I'm not saying Saine is going to be riding the bench or anythign like that, he's far too talented. However, I think he's not as pure of a running back as Herron is.

Did anyone notice as the year went on they stopped using B.Saine as much as far as running the ball? He was a very effective weapon RECIEVING the ball but not so much running the ball. Brandon is still young and like I said maybe he was suffering from some effects from that knee injury? However, even before the knee he had some nice runs but then he also still looked lost on a lot of carries as well. I'm probably going to be wrong about B.Saine/Herron but for some reason I believe Herron is going to turn some heads big time next year.

I agree. Saine has above average hands, and Sunday Speed... But he's doesn't seem to be the natural runner, or at least AS NATURAL a runner as Herron, (or Wells of course)

And like you say, thats doesn't mean don't give him carries, or get him the ball in space (how about playing the Ginn roll in the ShotGinn formation) or line him up in the slot, motion him out wide, etc,etc....

Use his talent, obviously, use his speed to create mismatches... but I agree that he may never be a every down, load carrying, back.

IMO picking the hole is something that great backs learn. Mo Clarrett was already great at it while still in high school. During Mo's all too brief career at tOSU you never saw him just run into the back of his linemen.

Beanie Wells made huge strides at this between his freshmen year and this year. If he contiunes to improve next year, oh my goodness we are in for a treat next year. Watch for Beanie to be a top 5 NFL draft pick.

My point is don't write Brandon off yet. With experence and coaching he may end up being the best of the bunch by the time he's done. Rarely does a back with his size have his speed.

oh the offense will most definatly be open this year...The great thing about our offense next year is we're going to be such a diverse Offense. First we'll be a power running team, then we can go play action over top, we can run spread now with all the recievers we have, we have speed and we have power from a RB standpoint, we can run the option with/QB draws with Henton/or pryor, and we have experience this year! Looks good for the buckeyes

All these are great picks... I really think Rolle is a no brainer, and Sanz is also a great pick! I personally was hoping to see more of dane this year, he didn't show great hands but as a freshman I expected that. However, whenever he made a catch it seemed like it matterd (touchdown or a first down) he was like Gonzo the way most of his catches meant something.

No knock on Herron at all... but if our 4th RB is a major contributor... we have a problem... (and I don't mean getting 20 carries in garbage time against Troy... unless contribution means keeping Beanie Fresh).

I'm not sure what all this Saine knocking is about... do we really know what a 3rd string true Freshamn (who was dinged) Tailback can do? I know I don't. And I'd prefer to let the kid get some experience before we throw him in the "Lydell Ross" bin. If he develops catching the ball, out of the backfield, slot, shit-Ginn... whatever... that would certainly be a nice thing though... best Athletes on the field, eh?

I do tend to think we're gonna see some growth/depth/impact from new receivers next year... whether that's Sanzenbacher, Saine, one of the Freshman, etc... I think there is gonna be a good amount of growth in the line-up there.... in no way am I saying that someone is gonna put Robiskie on the bench... but... there are a lot of personnel groupings/looks that may give one of those younger guys a chance... Obviously the coaches are going to want to improve the passing game across the board... and I think there is gonna be some healthy competition.

As for whoever steps in for Gholston... they are going to be expected to contribute... big shoes to fill but its designed for production... whether that's Gibson or someone else... the depth chart spot alone brings the expectation...

Pretty similar situation with Grant's LB spot... the right guy will be expected to turn it loose, whoever it is I want to hear their name all the time. No knock on Larry... but, I hoped to hear his name more this past year.

And not really much of an excuse for either of those guys to do a lot... there is experience, depth and talent all over the Defense... so... they won't be asked to do more than should be expected... which is to mess up QB's and cause havoc.
