Unexpected Contributor for 08'

"Boom" Herron! Word was he was so impressive on the scout team, coaches debated to take off the red shirt. He is a natural running back who sees the holes well and has that special something.
Saine, for all his wonderful natural gifts, needs coaching to maximize his potential. He may have a higher ceiling than Herron. But, it may take some time to get there.
"Beanie" played hurt much of the year, so the emergence of more running back help would be better for the season outlook. His leaving the Illinios game contributed to that loss. We don't know if he can stay healthy.

IMHO, Rolle and Sanzenbacher can't be considered unexpected contributors. They will both be in the two-deep at the very least, and they will both contribute if they stay healthy. You'd be hard-pressed to find a Buckeye fan to disagree with that, apart from the disputatious fools who would simply quibble about the definition of the word 'contribute'.

Thad Gibson is ready for prime time.

I agree, but I think it'll be at DE now that Barrow has left the team.

My hope is Jermaine O'Neil to live up to the hype

I'm not sure the Pacers will be willing to part with him. He's always rumored to be on the trading block, but nothing ever comes of it.

I agree, expect Dane to have a good year. Boom and Rolle will do the same. I won't be disputatious. But I could be a fool at times.

I think Jake Ballard will play a larger role next year.

I can only hope our playbook actually has plays to the TE... I am not sure it does though... I think Jake is a special talent who needs to get his touches every game, but we will see..

As far as Boom being a natural running back... I never understood what a natural position player was.. but ok.

James Scott could be a good pick, but with so much returning talent I am not sure how much he will see the field.

I think Terry is going to have a monster year after his RS... and depedning on how they use him I can see Gibson having a great year as well.

BTW.. I really like the Martin pick... our FB position is pretty bare I would guess.. have not heard anything about Aram Olsen to make me think he is ready to take the reigns so a freshman might just come in and be ready for the job.

I think Connor Smith could be big next year. I think he will battle in the spring for a spot on the line. I also think Donnie Evege will make some plays. He will start on special teams and will see time in on defense.

Thats what i'm saying I knew Herron would be a tough guy to play against as a scout teamer.... To me I know I could get killed for this but here it goes.. Saine doesn't seem like a good fit as a running back to me for some reason? When he ran the ball it seemed like he was running up our offensive lines backs all game long, and wasn't following blocks to explode through the holes. His speed is such a weapon and I don't think he used it like he could've, but as a freshman he'll improve that. You can tell when a position comes naturally to a player for sure. For example the past few great running backs here are naturals when it came to the position. MoC,Pittman, and now Chris Wells are naturals at toting the rock. When they get the ball everything to them is simple and they KNOW they will find the right hole and they know where to take the ball. Then there are the ones who don't look as natural at the position like Lydell Ross, Maurice Hall, MoW, and B.Saine. Thats not to say they won't work on some things and get better at running the ball or anything, but rather for whatever reason it doesn't seem like they know what to do when they have the ball. A natural to me has qualities that can't be practiced and can't be improved through exercise. Like Vision, when to cut, when to juke, and when to know to just get the yards you can.

I think B.Saine will be a BIG part of our offense but he's shown he's most effective right now as a reciever. He had success in the beginning of the year against Washington, but to me he struggles to find that crease. I like Boom's vision in his HS video and the things that can't be taught. He's definatly got the build, and skill set to be a very big contributor for the bucks. Once Beanie/MoW leave I think Boom will be the main man with Saine spelling him. I do believe Saine will be on the field just as much as Herron, but in a different capacity.

I completely agree with the Ballard comments in here. I really hope they are able to draw up some plays to get him open. He's a great threat down near the goal line and we need to utilize him.

As far as O'Neal goes... he's doing well on Special Teams, why move him? :wink2:
