Unexpected Contributor for 08'

I'm not sure what all this Saine knocking is about... do we really know what a 3rd string true Freshamn (who was dinged) Tailback can do? I know I don't. And I'd prefer to let the kid get some experience before we throw him in the "Lydell Ross" bin. If he develops catching the ball, out of the backfield, slot, shit-Ginn... whatever... that would certainly be a nice thing though... best Athletes on the field, eh?

I don't know what the shit-Ginn is, but it sounds like a crappy formation.

Agree on Sanz. Could be a Gonzo in waiting. Does he have Gonzo speed?

4.5 forty, ran the 400 m with a personal best of 48.6 as a HS senior IRCC. But track speed is different that football speed. I think his on field speed will open a few eyes. We've only seen him catching passes of maybe 10 yards of whick he caught nearly everything (except the YSU game). Gonzo and Dane have similar moves and quickness, Gonzo may be a step faster but we're comparing him as a junior vs a freshman. His quickness will improve, he has the tools.

well again I'm not saying Saine is a bust or that he sucks or anythign like that. He was a nice weapon from time to time this past year and I look for his role to expand next year, especially recieving the football. Also I never said Herron is going to be a HUGE contributor but rather someone who chips in and gets you that needed first down once in a while or who might spring one for 30 yards ever so often. Again not saying a world beater but someone who will get you 300 yards and 4-5 TD's.

Also I realize saine was injured this year 3 games in but I even noticed his running patterns before he got hurt as well. He had those 2 nice runs against YSU and had those 2 nice runs against Washington but it looked to me like whenever he was in it didn't seem like there were any holes to run through. However, Beanie comes in and he's makng that cut and he's hitting holes with no problem. I realize Siane is a freshman and I hope he proves me wrong, but I think Herron is the more natural. Saine is the more talented but Herron I think will have "it" Again this is all just on a hunch regaurding herron...

Surprised no one has hardly said taurian washington he was one player I wanted to see more of last year

I think Aaron Pettrey is going to re-claim the starting kicking posistion and do a fantastic job.

Not necessarily an unexpected contrbutor, but maybe more of an unexpected aggressiveness. I think Tressel and our special teams coaches "amp up" our kick-off return unit with more first and second teamers to increase our athleticism and blocking.

Our kick-off returns were beyond poor last year, and I don't think it was becuase of the return men.

personally moving pretorious to starter was always a myth to me? Why? to me pretorious has trouble with getting the ball UP! He had problems in the kick scrimmage since he's been at OSU with getting kicks blocked, and Pettrey doesn't have that problem. You add Pettrey with having the stronger leg, and getting the ball up quicker and you SHOULD have the starter...

Pettrey was hurt most of the year...

If he can get up to about 290+ I think Doug Worthington is due for a major breakout season. He may even play his way into the draft with his size alone. Also on the offensive side based of what I saw, Bryant Browning is going to be a good one probably at guard.

You used him in the same sentence as Lydell "Damn I just ran straight into Nick Mangold's ass again" Ross.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to overbash Lydell, but, anyone feel like we might have won the NC on '03 if we had a tailback as good as... say Mike Wiley?

Good chance considering if we would have beaten scUM we would most definitely have ended up in the top two, and at least played for all the marbles.

BukI, I do see some of the same things you do in Saine, he does not seem to have great vision. I noticed the same thing in the couple of HS games I saw him play in, if the hole was where it was supposed to be, he's score a td, otherwise he'd only get what he could push the pile/drag the defender. (oversimplification, I know)

I know nothing about being a RB so I don't know if "vision" is innate or learned, either way Saine is still a huge weapon even without top notch vision.

My pick is out there a bit, Eugene Clifford, I think he gets his head on straight, plays very well on special teams and plays too well for the coaches not to find a way to get him on the field more. (I'm not know as a seer though )

I definitly agree with the Gibson pick because I think he will be a great edge rushing threat next year. My first pick though would be Browning. I think he will step up to take the RT job left open by Barton's graduation. He could be the key, because if he plays well, we will have another outstanding line that could be better than this year's was.
