UF OL Ronnie "Taz" Wilson (official thread)

Dad again,
Without saying more than I should, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. They didn't mention that this guy had been following him at 2-2:30 am all over town and he ducked into the parking lot to lose the guy.

Hang in there dad. I guess we'll learn why he was following Taz. But I can see where getting spit on in the face could piss a body off. The report said Taz admitted to doing that. What the other guy might have done to deserve that from Taz may be another story in itself. Forgive me if I fail to see the distinction in having a semi-automatic rather than a full auto in the trunk. It should not be in the truck when going to clubs.

There are always two sides. I'm a lawyer, so I darn well know about presumption of innocence. I'm more worried about the University policy than the criminal deal if it played out as you suggest. I hope it works out. I know it has to be hard to read about your son who you love in the boards and in newspaper articles. If you read my post which was critical of your son, please realize that I - like the rest of the world - only know what is printed.

I feel for you. I have two boys. I hope that whatever the punishment (there will be some, be it Meyer or UF), Taz will go on with his education and life and continues being the same sort of son that makes you now so willing to support him. You are all in my prayers.

You stated "It should not be in the truck when going to clubs.",
which is another misconception.
He didn't even drive his car to the club, he rode to the club with some one else. The guy followed him in the first car then proceeded to follow him after he got to his car.

1. Taz does not drive around with automatic weapons in tow.
In fact it wasn't even an automatic, it was a semi-automatic which is legal.

2. If he was so gun happy as you make it appear, he would have shot the guy insted of shooting in the air.
Yes, he made a bad mistake, but remember you only heard part of the story.
.

yeah, I feel better now. :shake:

All that is fired up, must eventually come back down.

If you really are a lawyer it should be fairly plain- one is legal and one is not (without the valid permits required to own fully automatic weapons). I also fail to see why it shouldn't be in the vehicle when going to a club- which is moot when you consider what his father said. If I were to carry a weapon with me (which I may or may not do most times) it would certainly stay in the same place all the time so I know it is there should I need it. If Taz was OK to drive he was OK to use the weapon, and although firing it into the air is a dangerous situation to put yourself in I wasn't there so I won't make a judgement on if it was the right decision or not.

Not to mention dangerous for INNOCENT BYSTANDERS standing around. :roll1:

But who cares about them. We gotta protect the right of football players to shoot their precious weapons wherever they want.

Why does anyone need a semi-automatic weapon in their car?

Ever been to Gainesville? It has the highest crime rate of any college campus in the south east, possibly the country. I know it was #1 in the nation for some time.

Most handguns are semi-automatic. and to see one on the streets that isn't anymore is rare.

the fact that the weapon was in the trunk is a good sign. Gang-bangers and thugs don't cruise around with guns in the trunk. They carry them in their laps.

I carried a Beretta in my trunk for a long time. I went to the firing range a lot.
