UF OL Ronnie "Taz" Wilson (official thread)

Congratulations on your win too, Taz! Good luck against La. Tech!

I know it's early, but how is practice going now that you are into the season? Keep us updated on your depth chart status so that we can make sure we catch a game when it is likely you'll be getting some significant PT.

Hope you'll be pulling for us against Texas...this one's gonna be big. If you thought the 'Shoe was rocking on your visits last year, this is gonna be NUTS! Of course Ben Hill Griffin is no slouch either...I can't wait till your first BIG game. You'll have to share the experience. Go Gators!

P.S. Send your family our best as well!

Nice to see Mama checking in on us...now we'll really have to behave.

It's truly too bad that Taz didn't get the chance to become a Buckeye...I can't think of a single person on this board who wasn't pulling hard for him to come here.

Taz update.

GAINESVILLE - Florida linebacker Brandon Siler was still in his street clothes when he knew Tennessee was beaten. In fact, he was still on the team bus. In fact, that bus was still in the parking lot of the team hotel some three hours before kickoff.
Siler said the look in the eyes of his teammates told him Florida would win, which the Gators did with a 16-7 victory in front of a record crowd Saturday night at Florida Field.
"I know we practiced well all week," Siler said an hour after the game. "A team plays the way it practices, and we practiced like champions."
Well, the defense anyway.
The offensive line might want to step it up some.
Immediately after the victory, Florida coach Urban Meyer was critical of the way the line blocked.
"That's nonsense," he said of the performance that allowed five sacks and paved the way to just 125 rushing yards - 68 net yards.
Meyer hadn't softened his stance Sunday afternoon.
"I'm not happy at all with the way the offensive line is playing," Meyer said in his weekly Sunday conference call.
One change was made during the game when freshman Ronnie Wilson replaced senior Tavares Washington at left guard. Meyer said more changes could be in store before the Gators reach Lexington, Ky., for Saturday's game against Kentucky.
But Meyer said he doesn't want to panic. Tennessee has a pretty good defense. Still, the Gators offense sustained only two real drives. The other points - a pair of third quarter field goals - were the results of favorable field position.
"I completely agree with him," Florida center Mike Degory said. "The mistakes we made, we know better. We still have a long way to go."
But thanks to the defense, Degory and his line mates can watch the game film comforted with the knowledge the Gators won.
"We're just happy to go out and do the job," Siler said.
It's possible the defense will carry the team until the offense gets settled. Gators' fans hungry for high-scoring afternoons might have to settle for quarterback sacks and turnovers.
"They're going to have to get used to it," Siler said.
Fourth quarter meltdowns that included poor play on both sides of the ball permeated the Ron Zook era, yet the defense smothered Tennessee in the fourth quarter, and quarterback Chris Leak drove the team for a field goal with 8 minutes, 2 seconds to play that made it a two-score game.
Meyer saw that as a sign of progress.
"There's toughness in this program," Meyer said. "They showed me something. Our defense, in particular."
Noteworthy
Andre Caldwell, who broke a bone in his left leg, underwent surgery Sunday. . . . Meyer was not sure the extent of the ACL injury suffered by defensive end Ray McDonald. . . . The Gators are ranked fifth in the AP poll, their highest ranking since being ranked fifth in the Orange Bowl after the 2001 season - Steve Spurrier's final game.
Saturday's game
Urban Meyer and the fifth-ranked Florida Gators will hit the road as they go for their fourth win of the season against SEC foe Kentucky, Time and TV TBA, 620-AM

FOR FLORIDA TODAY
[/FONT]Florida's two injured starters, defensive end Ray McDonald and wide receiver Jemalle Cornelius, will both be game-time decisions but have not been ruled out of playing Saturday at LSU, head coach Urban Meyer said Thursday.
McDonald, who injured a knee against Tennessee and hasn't played since, has about a 40 percent chance to play, Meyer said. McDonald didn't practice Thursday and was wearing a knee brace.
The outlook was a little better for Cornelius, who injured an ankle against Alabama and missed the Mississippi State game last Saturday.
"Jamelle practiced today," Meyer said. "He's still gimping a little bit, but I'd say 60/40 he'll play."
Since Meyer has such limited talent at receiver, he said he was considering playing freshman David Nelson, who hasn't played yet.
"He's really coming on right now," Meyer said. "He's doing a good job right now and we have to make a decision on whether to burn his redshirt or not. It's tough."
Meyer said he will make the decision before the Gators leave today for the trip to Louisiana.
"He kind of slipped away for a while," Meyer said. "Now he's starting to get stronger. He's a tall, angular guy that's not real strong, but I'm glad he's here."
Of all the other freshmen who haven't played, the only other one who still might play is offensive lineman Ronnie Wilson. Usually, Meyer thinks linemen need a year to beef up before playing.
"Ronnie Wilson is close," Meyer said. "That has crossed our mind a few times. He's a good player and he wants to play. We just have to do what's right for the young man." Backfield news. Running back DeShawn Wynn, who was suffering from a sore shoulder, practiced Thursday and will be fine to play against LSU, Meyer said. Wynn and redshirt freshman Markus Manson will be the first two running backs on the depth chart this week, Meyer said.
