Nope...Kehoe just doesnt like this kid.
Unless something miraculous happens, he aint coming here. Either OSU or UF probably. Some of who've seen Wilson play question Kehoe's decision though - Wilson supposedly has looked dominant so far this season.

Re: Question on Ronnie Wilson
Sad to say, but I don't think we're recruiting this kid. I saw him play when I was in Florida last month and let me tell you, he's a beast! He goes both ways for Ely and brings it at DT as well as OL. I don't think it's UM's fault that we're not recruiting him however. He wants early playing time, and is adamant about it, so that has taken us out of the picture. There is still some time left, but I doubt this kid is ever recruited by the Canes.

Re: Question on Ronnie Wilson
If he's THAT good, early playing time on the OLine might be a possibility with the way this line looks and the fact that JRod and Myers will be gone next year.

Re: Question on Ronnie Wilson
Chris Barney is a better lineman from the film that I've seen. Wilson has some of the worst technique I've seen from any highly recruited offensive lineman. Letting the defender go by you then falling on top of him will not work against any D-1 caliber player, it's always the first sign of laziness in an olineman. Barney on the otherhand has great form and is excellent blocking both the pass and the run.

Re: Question on Ronnie Wilson
5XNC,

According to many people, Morse/Bain/Wollschlager/McMeans are all guards/centers. That means that only Rutledge and Wimbs are the tackles (after Winston and Butler are gone) . . . and we know Wimbs wasn't anywhere near ready yet and Rutledge hasn't been in the program long so it would give Wilson a good shot at competing for a job as a sophomore or redshirt frosh.

Re: Question on Ronnie Wilson
A little like Butler, I think. Good pass protector, a little light in the lower body. He will be a good backup at RT next year, imo.

Re: Question on Ronnie Wilson
If you're not impressed with Ronnie Wilson after watching him play a game in person I have to question what you're looking at. Everyone that I have talked to or heard from that has seen this kid play really like him. His size alone will get him recruited by major colleges, and from what I saw, he has a lot more than just size. Now I don't know much about technique for an OL, but I'm sure the recruiting Coordinator at the University of Florida does, and he loves Wilson also. He was at the game that I was at in September, and Wilson was the main reason why. Ronnie Wilson is a big time kid, and he's probably the 2nd best OL in the state of Florida. BTW, I have also seen Barney, another big time kid when he is on his game, play in person, and I like Wilson just as much.

Re: Question on Ronnie Wilson
Deis,

If Byrd is such a good pass blocker but maybe not quite as strong in the lower body, isn't Left Tackle a little more suitable for him? Typically, the left tackle is a better pass blocker and the right tackle a better run blocker of the 2 tackles. Also, who is Kehoe grooming to take over left tackle in the future? Rutledge?

Re: Question on Ronnie Wilson
Good points, PSU. He's not THAT light, and he's still very young. I think it's about the way he moves and what are his strengths in blocking. While we'd love a mauler at RT more than at LT, it seems he's more of one than Rutledge, who looks like he'll be given a chance to be the LT in 2006.

I tried to preface my statement, I was only going based on film. The last time I watched Ely was Ty Moss's senior year, and I wasn't looking for Wilson. Just going by the tape, the technique he has right now will not fly in college. The players are just too fast and too strong, he's going to have to keep a wide base and move his feet. Right now he's just out there bodyslamming 220 lbs guys that are too slow to beat him with a passrushing move. Again just from film alone, he has the same problems Wibs and Bain had. They're both going to be good linemen, but they're going to take a little longer than most kids because they aren't getting very good coaching, they're used to relying on just being bigger and stronger than everyone else.

Re: Question on Ronnie Wilson
i don't want him in a Canes jersey....
Get Youngblood and Barney and another stud...maybe Codrington or someone who can redshirt and Kehoe cna develop
There's no reason our entire OLine should not be 6'3"-6'7" and weight 290->350...

Doesn't 6-4.5/330 fall within those boundaries?

Guys,

Ronnie is hurt. Right now he is using a crutch. He does have an x-ray and will be visiting a specialist on Monday.

A little suprising to me, as it didn't "look" that bad. And Ronnie is just so tough, he wanted to keep playing. We should know how many games he may miss after he sees a specialist.

I am very positive he will be checking in here once he gets back from his trip tomorrow afternoon.

Little surprised to read this quote by Ronnie, but I have heard the Swamp is deafening...

"It was outrageous. When I was at Ohio State they were pumping up the fact that they have over 100,000 fans in their stadium. Florida has less, and they were a lot louder. I see why Florida is ranked as having the loudest stadium. It can be deafening when they crank it up in there."
