Game Thread UAB Blazers at tOSU - Sep 22, Noon ET, BTN

Anyone think that by scripting our first 12 plays it really restricts what the offense is able to do as well as especially limiting what Braxton is comfortable doing?

I mean if the defense is showing stuff that we need to adjust to, we must adjust rather than run the first 10 plays by a piece of paper.

As someone said earlier on this page, Just play.

First half observations:

1) Sometimes it takes awhile for this offense to make adjustments, but when they do we can be very explosive. Love our offensive staff and feel that when we get a couple recruiting classes in here under Meyer, we'll be a Top 10 offense.

2) Saw no improvements whatsoever from our defense when it comes to tackling in space, scheme, or adjustments. LBs still take bad angles and don't wrap up. DBs also still have too many issues breaking free of blockers. In addition there just seem to be a number of screens or run plays where we simply don't have enough players in that area to make a play.

3) Hank and Goebel are the only two Dlinemen I see consistently playing at high level.

Right now watching this team make me keep thinking of...

I think the tackling is better than last week, but still not good enough. Whats more troubling is our refuseal to bring our secondary up for support against the quick passing game. That shit has to stop now. Who cares about the deep ball when that has been a non issue against osu for years. Right now teams are housing them from 50-80 yards out because we don't have enough hats on the ball as well as not wrapping up. So why even give teams room to make a move and get up field?

Adjust. It's something our offense constantly does, so why the hell not on defense?

No, he really doesn't. I agree with everything in this post, but the bolded part. Braxton will never be a pass first QB (which isn't a bad thing), not with the ability he has to run the ball.

Well, maybe not a pass first QB, but a consistent passer. Basically what I'm trying to say is, sure, Miller needs to work on his passing game during actual games, but you can do that without taking away the rushing aspect.

Simon is playing hard as well but they are continually holding the shit out of him. The referees in football pretty much suck all the way around so I cant just complain about them but Simon is a huge magnet for offensive holding. Watch a couple plays of just him and count how many times he's held. Its crazy

Didn't see the tackling improvements. Lesser athletes in comparison to Cal may make it seem thay way, but it seems our first tackler never gets the man down. Saw nothing defensively to make me feel better about this group.

Been saying this all game. No huddle/hurry up. Let the athletes do what they do. No thought other than knowing what the play is as you get to the line. Scripts only work for the band in this Ohio State. Let the kids play and we score 21.

I absolutely agree. It was clear as day that he didn't have the confidence to make those throws early on. He looked a little tight out there. Then as the second quarter rolled around, he started to get a little more comfortable out there. The play calling got back to normal, and the points started adding up.

I'm for limiting Miller's carries, but you can't put him in a straight jacket to start the game like that.

Can someone explain the 10 seconds off the clock helmet rule? How does someones helmet coming off translate to 10 seconds off the clock in the 2nd or 4th quarter?

Also, what are they chanting on kick offs while the ball is in the air?

The offense get a free timeout by having a player conveniently lose his helmet

Yeah, I don't watch much of the other conferences to know if they seem as allergic to calling holds, but it seems we get crews that are deathly allergic to that call.
