U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

@AKAK - am I overly jaded to think they still sign him for the next cycle? :)

I have no idea.

I can see it both ways, if he's carrying out the rest of the leadership's vision, (and they think he's doing that effectively) then they may well.

I don't think this will have much to do with it one way or the other. (honestly, one thing about Berhalter, whatever you want to say, I honestly don't think he would hold what his Mom did against Gio, and I think Gio offered yet another apology for his conduct after the stuff in this thread. You can say he was too public about the performance here, but he's been that way always, was with John Brooks, was with the Crew and I think the players who aren't 19 understand that honesty... ) And when it comes to 30 year old incidents, I mean, if he wasn't married to the woman and had 4 kids with her, I might think differently -- all of which happened after the incident I assume -- I'll give Mrs Berhalter the benefit of the doubt on that.

That said, I don't know and if they do, I doubt you'll see much in the way of strategic changes in direction for the program.

This should definitely not impact the decision on Gregg.

It was by all accounts a minor incident (not requiring law enforcement) that was addressed by both families at the time and handled again as Gregg and his now wife decided to get back together. Which by all accounts they have been happily together/married for 30 years since this took place.

Why the Reyna’s decided to take this route towards Gregg is pretty disgusting. Even for soccer parents.

By the way, Berhalter’s description of what happened - signed off by himself and his wife. Credit to him trying to get in front of it. It all sounds very level headed and reasonable.

Not acceptable behavior but again it was addressed, rehabbed and corrected. That should be commended.

He can be let go for his roster management and tactics on his own if people want to go that route.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Reyna is doubling down and overstepping her boundary.

I know some abused may downplay the extent out of fear, so others speak out to help. I don’t read that as the case here and Mrs. Reyna is seriously trying to speak for Mrs. Berhalter, which she doesn’t seem to want or agree with.

Let them be.

Two Jersey kids that grew up and played together through international soccer. Family friendship broken over Gio not getting PT.

Right. Playing time. Not the incident, which Danielle Reyna is so enraged about that she stayed friends with them for 30 more years.
