U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

1st half watch

Dominated the ball. Team looked in sync and confident. Ticos…what happened? Far from the CR team that made a run in 2014.

Tyler Adams is the glue to any lineup. Skill and control, he was commanding the game

Dike- movement, holdup play, power finishing. Welcome young Jozy.

Not a lot of tests for the defense- quiet half for Cannon, Ream and McKenzie. I like Robinson pushing up on the outside.

Lleget, solid.

Horvath got to hang out after lots of action Sunday.

Weah, Musah, Aaronnson (little Messi?)- fun, quick, creative kids that will push for minutes. Exciting times.

That one bit of action by Aaronson down along the endline was as pretty as I can remember from a US player.

I was reading some moron's post match wrap up and they did some really stupidly broad stroked listicle titled: Things we learned (or now know) or something and one was: "Tyler Adams is the deep lying midfielder" -- you don't say... did I mention moron?

I hate to be at that point too early, but if we're going into qualifying and/or WC with 4 fullbacks, don't we feel pretty good about Dest, Yedlin, Cannon, Robinson as a group? I don't like 3-4-3 but you need all of them in that too, I think.

As for Dike, I love the kid and I'm not here to temper expectations or anything of the sort, he's a freaking runaway dump truck... I think he will be much better than Altidore, to the degree that his mere presence changes the game, but, that takes time to develop. Don't be disappointed if he ends up in Bundesliga or even France, it won't be for long, but we need him to play, where ever it is. He's got good initials. That's all I'm gonna say. (I'm no Altidore hater by any means and I'm less of the type of guy to drool over half baked potential, I just don't see how you stop him once he improves his positioning, anticipation and all those other little details that come through experience.

Its very easy to see why people like him. I do too, dunno what position he plays, but no one else seems to either.

About the only good thing McKenzie has done in 2 games is taken a foul that earned him a yellow. Is he just having a bad stretch? I've never heard of him before Mexico's first goal.

I can't speak for bad stretch or not, but it seems like Berhalter wants a certain kind of athlete in that spot next to Brooks and that athlete was going to be Aaron Long... then he tore his Achilles, so, I think the scramble is on to get guys minutes with Brooks. (He probably knows what he needs to know about Walker Zimmerman, and will see more of him and the other MLS guys through the summer)

Just to add to my comment above, for whatever reason I remember Aaronson playing with Philadelphia, McKenzie doesn't stick out to me in my memory and I don't get much of a chance to follow Genk.. And defenders don't get many highlight tweets.

And I also didn't mean to imply that they only other option is Walker Zimmerman, he just popped into my head as an MLS guy who would become a candidate. Obviously Miles Robinson is probably going to get some work this summer and others.

Why didn't we see any of Miazga, I don't know either. Richards is out there if pretty young.

I just hadnt thought about it much, even when it was going to Europe to play friendlies with mostly Euro based players, Berhalter would drag Lletget and Long with him.

Yep, Guatemala playing despite not qualifying…weird tournament

For whatever reason, Curaçao players (Eloy Room included) thought they would somehow be immune from exposure to COVID. I just hope Room isn’t positive for the virus and can quickly rejoin the Crew. They need him.

As far as US, this should be mostly straight forward and a 2-0, 3-0 type game. They might’ve found themselves as the favorite after Chucky Lozano is now out of the tournament due to injury. Lozano gave Mexico a truly prolific player that can’t be replaced with the current roster. Also intrigued to see how Honduras and Jamaica perform.

A team with little (if any) playing time together playing like they lack chemistry. Who would’ve guessed? I could do without Acosta and Yueill next game. Both had very forgettable games, and are a large reason why there was such a disconnect between the back line and the attack. Need guys who are able to string passes together.

Busio has been infinitely better with possession in the defensive midfield.
