U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

Possession oriented offense that Gregg built with Columbus on full display in the first half. Tim Ream even had a couple of solid moments, and that’s saying something.

Also really impressed with Nick Lima’s pace against T&T. Big time game changer.

What do you know? The first cross into the box above waist level turns into paydirt. Who would’ve thought...
It's actually even a little more fun than that. In Berhalter land you talk about getting extra guys in the next level. Doesn't always work obviously but here there's a little stall of possession and they get the ball back. So you see a whole lot of them doing arriola or Boyd on the wing and trying to get numbers attacking the cross to the near post (with a trailer if you can). Zardes is successful in this system because it asks him to make one decisive touch. They can say what they want about altidore (and I don't care either way) but his hold up ability is really secondary.

Now. The kicker on this is, Pulisic recovers, zardes is attacking the near post... His trailer is Zimmerman and the far post runner is long... I dunno who was marking him, too lazy, but my guess is it's an AM or F not in his element and Pulisic makes the nice high drive to the far post. So you have both central defenders going deep here.
