U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

I noticed during the postgame of today's friendly against Portugal (Ethan...man, that was not a good look) that when they briefly mentioned the idea of the tournament in passing they said something to the effect of "That would be fun to call in April or May, wouldn't it?" I'd imagine if they're seriously exploring it, their media partners have been in the loop, so it sounds like it would probably be late spring just before the WC.

What about Ethan? I didn’t catch much of the game, or postgame.

Good thing he’s just a placeholder for Zach Steffen to take over the GK spot! That was bad.

Sepp Blatter endorses Morocco bid over U.S. to host 2026 World Cup

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter on Thursday endorsed Morocco's bid to host the 2026 World Cup over the joint bid from the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Blatter, who is banned from any role in global football for financial misconduct, issued support for the event to return to Africa, after he pushed for South Africa to host in 2010.

Referencing the joint bid from the North American countries, Blatter tweeted: "World Cup 2026: Co-Hosting rejected by FIFA after 2002 (also applied in 2010 and 2018). And now: Morocco would be the logical host! And it is time for Africa again!"

South Korea and Japan co-hosted the event in 2002, the only time the World Cup has been staged in more than one country. The North American plan calls for 60 of the 80 games to be played in the U.S., with 10 each in Canada and Mexico.

Blatter's backing for the underdog bid from Morocco came just a day after it was revealed that FIFA wrote to officials to inform them that the ban on statements of support for one bid or another has been lifted.

This restriction, however, would not have applied to the 81-year-old Swiss anyway, as he has been banned from holding any football-related office since late 2015, the year the FIFA corruption scandal erupted and he was forced to resign.

Basically his endorsement is meaningless; however, just wondering if this is just a retaliatory strike against the US and/or how much money Blatter's "ringing endorsement" cost Morocco.

The guys played well for what they were up against, Brazil rolled out a strong team and didn't deserve the penalty to go up 2-0. Excited for the youth of the USMNT. Gotta beat Mexico next week!
Yeah, that penalty was pretty weak. And I’m not sure Weah will be coming off the bench for long. Once Pulisic is back from injury, him and Weah starting on this squad has me excited. I was thoroughly impressed with Miazga and Brooks at CB, and thought Yedlin handled the right side of the defense well, considering what he was up against. I wasn’t real wild about the left back. He was getting out of position defensively, allowing the the attack to go through him. Trapp played extremely well, and thought he was the best passer on the field. I’m still not sold on Wood being the future at Striker, but I haven’t seen a whole lot of worthy options outside of him.

The team is looking promising though. Need to stay young, and just roll with it. No more of this 30-35 year old roster nonsense.
