U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

Christian Pulisic obviously has a starting job forever. DeAndre Yedlin, Bobby Wood, Paul Arriola, Kellyn Acosta, JAB, Miazga, Jordan Morris can stay if they remain in/get to Europe.

Otherwise, burn it to the ground. Gulati, Arena, all of the other players. Appreciate your commitment, let's honor achievements of guys like Dempsey, Bradley, Howard, Guzan, DMB... and then tell them their national team careers are over. None of those guys are young enough to still need be involved.

Spend the next 3 years solely focused on the development of the young guys. FFS focus on finding CBs, it really shouldn't be that hard... hopefully guys like JAB, CCV, EPB are the future there. Figure out who the next generation of goalkeepers are (Horvath, Yarbrough, Gonzalez, anyone else?) and then ensure there is constantly competition for that spot. Target striker is the one glaring question mark to me where I don't know we have up-and-coming there, maybe that leads to a more floating striker and you just don't play target outlets but would think that's a role you would like to have. Midfielders/wingers seems like the one area where we do have decent depth/skill but again, commit to the rebuild.

I'm still sick to my stomach about this.

Seems like a crime, this should have been Pulisic's coming out party to the world. I do have faith in the future, it's nice knowing moving forward we have an attack that if used correctly (the big if) will give us something we've never truly had before.

Does it make too much sense to have Tab Ramos take over? I see so many other names also mentioned, and I get it, but Tab knows the younger players, has had great success, is well respected, etc.

Yeah, not a fan of a tournament. But wouldn’t mind seeing the US play a few friendlies against those teams.
Right. I think calling it a tournament anytime near the World Cup is a disservice and embarrassment to the world's biggest event, trying to steal the attention those teams deserve.

On the other hand I mean...we have a soccer program to build in America and if those 4 other [historically] great countries want to play, you can't turn that down. I hope they land on some middle ground that allows our future to get experience in a competitive environment, while giving the World Cup the stage it deserves (and we unfortunately, do not).

By the way, I still have random days where I remember there's a World Cup next year and the United States will not be there. And I get depressed.

I have no watch parties with friends, no rooting interest, nothing. So freaking dumb.
Definitely sucks, but I’m still extremely excited for this WC, regardless of US not being there. Looking forward to seeing if Iceland can make some noise like they did at Euro 2016, and Sweden continuing the momentum of knocking a World giant off in Italy. Would also like to see Belgium make another WC run.

I noticed during the postgame of today's friendly against Portugal (Ethan...man, that was not a good look) that when they briefly mentioned the idea of the tournament in passing they said something to the effect of "That would be fun to call in April or May, wouldn't it?" I'd imagine if they're seriously exploring it, their media partners have been in the loop, so it sounds like it would probably be late spring just before the WC.
