U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

Could you explain the "saves 3k lives?" Serious question, not internet asshole question.

So far at least 1,000 workers have died building opulent soccer stadiums that will hold 700,000 people for a country with only 300,000 national citizens. It has been estimated that more than 4,000 workers will die before construction is completed.

On a lighter note the U-20's are on to the Knockout Round of the U-20 WC after disposing of the hosts New Zealand 4-0 & taking six points from six in their first two Group Stage games. Zelalem lived up the the hype & more. Very composed, smooth and showed some flare as well. Him and Emerson Hyndman were unstoppable providing in attack as well as the fine displays from Rubio Rubin & Bradford Jamieson. Paul Arriola also showcased as well, but the big stand out in the back was Cameron Carter-Vickers who was nothing short of a vacuum in defense. Outstanding performance by the latter, but looks well above his years as he's only 17 1/2. Definitely some ones to keep an eye on throughout this squad.

Zelalem has the potential to be the United States first world-class player.

I thought that was Claudio Reyna (heehee).

Anyone for watching the FIFA-glorification (i.e. Sepp Blatter glory) film that comes out Friday in America? For a budget of $27 million, I can't even imagine how fate would have the FIFA film released the same week this happens.

Based on that footage: outstanding vision and touch with his right foot. He made a few absurd thread-the-needle passes and is comfortable with the ball in close quarters. Clearly needs a ton of work with his left, he's constantly passing up what should be open shots from the top of the box or turning 360 to get the ball back onto his right instead of going left. But the level of class is pretty obvious.

The good news: U20's are still in the Knockout Round.

The bad news: They got completely dominated in a 3-0 loss to Ukraine to take 2nd in the group. Not a single player played very well at all. Most of this has to lie with Tab Ramos deciding to play like a Serie A minnow the entire first half. Expecting a team to just flip the switch after chasing the ball an entire half had horrible consequences. Will be interesting to see how the squad responds next game after being dealt a humbler and having their confidence ravaged.

Side note: Shaq Moore must've read the "Dani Alves book on defending" because that kid was nowhere to be found on the right side. Like, not even in the frame found.

Strange game. The Dutch could've easily scored 5+ but got too cute on numerous occasions. It's as if they took their foot off the pedal at 3-1. We exposed Daley Blind repeatedly on the right side when Williams, Yedlin, Mix & Wood came on. Can't take much from a friendly like this, but still impressive resolve from the boys to keep forcing the issue & going all out for the W. All that said, I could do without ever seeing Tim Chandler play again. He's such a detriment to the squad.

Also, Jordan Morris got the assist on the Wood game-winner even though Bradley did most of the leg work setting it up. It's like everything this kid touches turns to gold.
