Tyrone Willingham (official thread)

They are saying on the radio that they might not play in their Bowl game. The team is supposed to meet and discuss if they will play or not. If they do decide to play, there will be a interim coach for the bowl game.

What do you think of the news then?

Reckon the Irish will play their bowl game?

What do you think the prospects are for someone else (UM for instance) to come in and truly right the ship? (With the academic strictures and SOS burdens at ND facing him).

Ink-Wiring minds wanna Know.

Well I hear that the Seniors do not want to go to the bowl game if TW does coach them.

I have mixed feelings but I have heard that TW does not like SB (heck his neighbors are on his rear about a fence he had put up) and neither does his family. I am excited about the prosect of a new coach and all but the guy was only here 3 years...

I think if the coach is one of the names that I mentioned earlier that ND could have a bright future. The academic requirements will alwasys be an issue as will the schedule but it seems that the "board" is FINALLY determined to field a top notch team.

OK....can we please put to rest the schedule of ND? They keep whining about their schedule. It looks like a strong B10 schedule or average SEC schedule.

Academic standards....fine, they are high. Schedule == excuse.

Yea AND Nay, You cannot separate the two - they are dual factors affecting the Irish. Anyway - for the sake of enlightenment here are the top 16 schedules as ranked by the NCAA on cumulative schedule thru 11/27/2004. Willingham's past gig the Carrdinal had the 49th ranked SOS.

Texas A&M
North Carolina
Arizona
Baylor
Arizona St.
Notre Dame
Oregon St.
Arkansas
Georgia
Iowa
Auburn
Texas
Temple
Miami (Fla.)
Louisiana Tech
Ohio St.

BTW, sCUM is at #35. Perhaps we need to spank them twice a year.

Actually, I am surprised that ND fired Ty. I thought, all things considered, he should be given more time. I thought with the academic standards and the mediocre athletic talent he was building a "good thing" in South Bend. I also believe there are always going to be better coaches available when you are in the middle of rebuilding a program. His 10-3 season should have "bought" him another year.

Well they canned the AD, so I guess that was an easy $100k for them.

Regarding the money, Hansen said he had not considered the possibility that Turner would be the only one to leave, instead of Willingham. But he also told the Times: "I think, as you and I are talking, I will go ahead with the $100,000 I mentioned."

Not a contract lawyer, I hope.

Actually they didn't can the AD--he resigned. Thus, maybe he is a contract lawyer, as it seems he realized that Turner provided him with an out.

Someone merged the older Willingham thread (which started when he was fired from ND) with Bob Saccamano's new thread which made it seem like Bob Saccamano was claiming he was fired...
