I just heard that Willingham has been shown the door by Notre Dame this morning. None of the news agencies have picked it up, but i'm sure the news will be out by the end of the day.

I'll be the first to admit i don't have any link to back this up, but i heard this from a EXTREMELY reliable source who is actually a member of the coaching staff.

Can this be an opening for Meyer at Notre Dame?

without a source we can see, no one is buying it.

Nate I am Nate and I approved this message.

It wouldn't surprise me. Willingham has almost the same record as Davey did when they fired him.

I'm sure if ND has the opportunity to get Meyer they'll take it.

If this is true that ND fired Willingham of course.

I'd ride this one out... The Ty is on thin ice... they were embarrassed by SC... you have to realize that no one was surprised outside of South Bend... but Inside.. I bet it still came as either a shock or a grim reminder of where ND's gone since Holtz left.

The only thing on Irish Eyes is a rumor he may leave for Washington...

Nothing on Premium or Free board mentioning being fired....Student Rally is today so maybe your friend is mixed up.

The head coach at arguably the most prestigious college football in the country is fired, and yet "none of the news agencies have picked it up"?

Don't ream me for saying this, but I hear Jim Tressel is on the shortlist. Of course, he'd never go, but I thought I'd mention it for some reason anyway.:banger:

I'll be the first to admit that this looks really suspicious....

But i was as shocked as the rest of you are when i heard the news. I obviously cannot provide a link to a conversation i just had, but don't be surprised when the news breaks sometime in the next day or so.

I am not sure that he is or will be fired but the students are putting together a rally and a formal letter of complaint about the losing of the football team. There is supposedly a very well and organized letter declaring that the students will not accept the pathetic losing of the football team and want to make it known that they will stop put up with losing or getting embarassed by USC.

I don't know that the students have enough pull to get the coach fired but I would not put anything past the Irish higher-ups. They feel as if they are better than any other school and I am sure they are not happy about losing as often as they have lately.

I don't see why they want to fire him, Ty Willingham has a good chance of being the first ND coach since 1993 to win a bowl game.
