See subway alumni, Notre Dame
To be fair, ND's reach is based on an actual Cultural and Religious identity which exists entirely independent of where somebody went to school... an association which ND has carefully crafted for at least a century at this point.
I hate to be seen defending them, because they're part of the Axis of Evil (with Texas, and 2 UMs imo) ... but I can make sense of a Irish descendant and/or Catholic in NYC being a fan of "The Fighting Irish" vs. a grad of MSU being a scUM diehard.
The wonderlic score isn't the story.
Gary was a two time Academic All B1G based on his GPA (you can look it up). So either 1) General Studies does not require you to be literate, or 2) the same person did not complete the course work and take the wonderlic.
UNC?
Oh, fuck me...at ~16:40, he offers up Jim Harbaugh becoming their John Cooper as a best case scenario to his panelists and the guy says “yes, please; sign me up.”
Does that meet the criteria of “they quit the fucking sport” in UTQTFS? Because, man...they’re HOPING he can finish out his career as their equivalent of the guy that ruined an entire decade for Buckeye fans. Jesus, Mary and Travolta...
Cooper recruited so many players with long very successful NFL careers. At least 1 HoF and a Heisman. As shitty as he was on big gamedays, he was never short of talent.
Those teams were so stacked, it's shocking he never won anything.
And as shitty as his drought was in The Game... they're on the verge of doubling that. And they're only marginally better in bowl games.
I guess they do share beating up on over-rated Irish teams.
But can anyone see a Pace, Eddie, Galloway, Glenn, Boston, Vrabel, Katzenmoyer, W. Smith, Wilkinson, R. Smith, Stringer, Tovar, Styles, Springs, Winfield, Doss, Bentley, etc. etc. etc. guys on scUM? They don't even have guys like Hoying, Pepe, Dudley, Fickell, Powell, Bellisari (LB), Howard, Germaine, Clements
All they got are a bunch of Herbstreits.
Cooper made us WR and DB U.
According to 247, 25% of his recruits were drafted by the NFL.
That's a crazy number, even by today's Superpower standards.
Harbaugh isn't going to touch that, especially now that the Hoke classes are gone along with his 1st - and only - highly rated class passed the 3yr mark.
The best part is that Greenberg is at least partially right.
They aren't relevant. Haven't been relevant. And will not be relevant.
But so is Valenti... Greenberg is part of the cottage industry of hyping Harbaugh and scUM in the offseason. They do have a bigger endowment than us (though I think Valenti takes a very narrow view of "resources" when it comes to football recruiting... State of Ohio has a lot more football talent than all our neighbors. Combined.)
Valenti forgets that USC and LSU have recent championships, conference and national, compared to that school up north.
This hits the nail on the absolute head. I don’t think Harbaugh is the same as he was in past jobs. There was a killer instinct that he’s completely lost (or has been beaten out of him).
He's exactly who he's always been. Never won at Stanford either. Loses the big game. Proceeds to lose the locker room.
In all honesty Hairball is the only thing keeping them competitive in the other 11 games on their schedule. If he leaves I think the bottom will drop out.
I don't know. He's lost all the recruiting momentum.
A fresh hire will get media hype cycle all over again, luck into a few elite players... eventually they could accidentally hire a decent coach.
I'm happy keeping Harbaugh indefinitely.
He's stuck getting almost all 3 stars now. Even the few 4s he gets, transfer before they become starters.
He can't develop 3s like some of the other coaches in B1G.
He's not a good gameday coach.
And he inevitably loses his locker room every year by December, if not sooner.
Give him a lifetime contract.
They're starting to wave the white flag up north....
They could judge it in terms of ROI... which would still be trash when you consider all the coaches making less than half of him that have gone to Indianapolis.
But I'm not complaining.
This is the year that we literally broke them as a program and a fanbase.
I've not yet begun to fight!
