You would think. But, truly, their only effective play to this point is having Collins run downfield and chcking it in his general direction. Patterson is just a terrible QB. And the best part is that the DFBIA is bewildered that he isn't lighting up the B1G. I keep seeing them (and the media) trying to paint him as some great QB at mississippi. Lets look at the numbers:

In 2016, his true frosh season, he completed 54.5% of his 132 passes in 3 games, for 880 yards (6.7 y/a), 6 TD and 3 INT for a 121.0 QBR. His three oppnents: mediocre aTm, Vandy and Miss St. He was an okay runner in those 3 games, logging 169 yards on 41 attempts (4.1 ypr).

In 2017, as a SO, he completed 63.8% of his 260 attempts, for 2259 yards (8.7 y/a), 17 TD and 9 INT for a 151.5 QBR across 7 games. 9 INT in 7 games is a little alarming, but the rest of the numbers look pretty good, yes? Well, 1632 yards, 15 TD, 4 INT of that was logged in a 4 game stretch against such powerhouses as South Alabama (429, 4/0), Tennessee Martin (489, 5/1), 5-7 California (363, 2/3) and 5-7 Vandy (351, 4/0). In the other 3 games against Alabama, Auburn and LSU, he completed 56.3% of his 103 passes for 627 yards (6.1 y/a), 2 TD and 5 INT.

It's obvious that most QBs play better against the stiffs and probably drop off a bit against the better teams on their scheduled. But he fell off a cliff against any decent teams he played. He also was supposed to be pretty good with his legs and showed flashes of that as a frosh, but by year two, he totalled -16 yards rushing on 47 attempts, including 17 attempts for -28 yards against the 3 good teams he played.

As usual, the DFBIA just listened to the idiot media and didn't bother to do any homework on their new savior. BP pointed all of the above out when the hype began, and guess how his career has played out...

It speaks to how bad their QB development is that Patterson still gives them the "best" chance to win. The others just have to be that bad.

BTW, in year five of Harbrau's tenure, Jake freakin' Rudock is by a wide margin the best QB they've had under "the qb whisperer" and anonymous 3* Hoke recruit Wilton Speight was significantly better than anybody they've trotted out since he left. Three QBs harbrau has recruited (from high school, need that qualifier now) have seen the field for them:

Brandon Peters (class of 2016, 4*, #6 PRO QB, #61 overall per 247)
8 games, 57-108, 52.8%, 680 YDS, 6.2 y/a, 4 TD, 3 INT, 111.2 QBR // 17 att, -36 yds, 0 TD

Peters was the recipient of a lot of spring hype in 2017 following his redshirt, with_goblog actually using the words "Andrew Luck 2.0." He was beat out by incumbent Wilton Speight, but was thrust into the QB1 role in late October against Rutgers when Speight hurt his back. He led them to wins over the murderers row of Rutgers, Minnesota and Maryland, but totalled just 124, 56 and 145 passing yards as scUM basically asked him to be a game manager and leaned on their running game. He got his ass kicked in a 24-10 loss to Wiscy, where he completed 9-18 for 157 yards and 0 TD and would miss the Game the following week. He returned for their epic implosion against South Carolina in the Outback Bowl completing 20-44 for 186 yards with 0 TD and 2 INT. That was essentially the end of Peters at tsun. He appeared in 2 games (corn, tOSU) in mop-up duty in 2018 completing 1-2 passes for 8 yards and an interception. He began the 2019 as the starting QB at Illinois, but is now injured with concussion symptoms.

Dylan McCaffrey (class of 2017, #5 PRO QB, #123 overall per 247)
13 games, 13-26, 50.0%, 183 YDS, 7.0 y/a, 2 TD, 0 INT, 134.5 QBR // 21 att, 162 yds, 2 TD

McCaffrey has been the "savior in waiting" for 2 years. In 13 games, primarily in mop-up duty, he's looked a lot better with his legs than his arm. The calls for "D-Caff" have grown louder as Mississippi Jesus continues to struggle, and they appeared to make the switch early in the second half in their Wiscy bloodletting. He ended up concussed a few plays in. Now, it seems everyone is just waiting for him to recover and hoping that the coaches go to him over Patterson. From what little I've seen of him, he seems to be much more of a runner than passer, as he's been effective with his lets, but a spotty thrower. He floated a few air biscuits against Wiscy before getting drilled into the turf.

Joe Milton (class of 2018, 4*, #9 PRO QB, #204 overall per 247)
6 games, 6-11, 54.5%, 117 YDS, 10.6 y/a, 1 TD, 2 INT, 137.5 QBR // 12 att, 47 yds, 2 td

The new "Cardale Jones 2.0", who seems to be becoming something of a folk-hero up there. The similarities may be in stature and arm-strength alone. When he's played, he has looked spotty, chucking 2 INTs in 11 attempts.

Oh yea, the NFL is good at the whole recycling meh coaches thing.

Looking at their schedule next year, with what they lose and what they replace it with, 5 loss seems way more likely than not. The player development of the 4 and 5 star players has been mostly garbage. imagine what the team is going to look like when all those 3* Harbrau specials have to actually take the field for significant time. Unless they pull some kind of miracle out of their ass 2020 is the real start of the major trainwreck.

See, if you were DFBIA you’d say that they have their 3*s playing like their 4/5*s.

That fan base is as stupid as Cubs fans. Worse really. Fucking Cubs fans at least have a cool place to go party when they suck. The tsun fucks just continue to show up for no apparent fucking reason.

Fucking brilliant.

Well, someones gotta make stupid faces and cry in the crowd when they hilariously lose.

Sad Peters is hurt, wanted some Savior on Savior crime.

Not that Illinois was likely to win anyway but now scUM gets to pad their defensive stats against a Sophomore QB whos only other FBS offer out of hs was Florida International.

Yeah, but few things are better than their inflated confidence getting knocked back down to earth after they beat up on the dregs of the power 5.

In fact, Charbonnet compares unfavorably with Dobbins, Webber, Samuel, Beanie, Pittman, Hyde...
He also compares unfavorably to Master Teague:

Zack Charbonnet: 61 carries, 260 yards (4.3 average), 4 TD
Master Teague III: 66 carries, 416 yards (6.3 average), 3 TD

Cardale was behind Braxton Miller and JT Barrett who both put up pretty good stats in their day.

Milton cant beat out Patterson, who is a barely average P5 starter.

Difference is there.
Here's the QB comparison:

J.T. Barrett (4 seasons): 12,697 total yards, 147 total TDs; 2016 Big Ten MVP
Braxton Miller (3 seasons): 8,906 total yards, 84 total TDs; 2012, 2013 Big Ten MVP
Shea Patterson (3+ seasons): 7,255 total yards, 57 total TDs; 2018 Third Team All Big Ten
You may recall Samuel started his first game as a collegian, ran 58 times for 383 yards and six touchdowns to go along with 11 receptions for 95 receiving yards as a freshman, alone.
Curtis Samuel's true freshman season was 2014. You may also recall that Ohio State's starting RB in 2014 was some guy named Ezekiel Elliott, who just happened to be one of the best college RBs of all time, and has become arguably the best RB in the NFL.

Michigan's "Thicc Curtis Samuel" is playing behind nobody ... or rather, he is not playing behind nobody, which is quite a bit worse.

Joe Milton (class of 2018, 4*, #9 PRO QB, #204 overall per 247)
6 games, 6-11, 54.5%, 117 YDS, 10.6 y/a, 1 TD, 2 INT, 137.5 QBR // 12 att, 47 yds, 2 td

Michigan Man Twitter is convinced that Milton will: (a) win the Heisman; and (b) be the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft. I shit you not....
