Too bad they play Rutgers this week, that will probably put a temporary band-aid keeping them from total meltdown, yet. Unless they completely crap down their legs and put out a 20-7 type stinker W. I wonder if they are dumb enough to get false hope from anything vs Rutgers. Rutgers is just that bad.

I never want to see the Ohio State SID tweeting out something like this. Preseason playoff darling is down to #20 in AP Poll in less than a month? Embarrassing!

for the life of me, I cannot understand how they didn’t start at 20. based on what they lost and what 4 years of history with Simple Jim. I do not understand the media’s love of scUM. do not get it. oh well, fuck em.

Probably because ESPN's clearly very flawed "scientific math projection system" claimed they were playoff bound

I am a grown man. I have a life. I have responsibilities. I have YARD WORK for God's sake!

So why have I spent much of the past two days reading another team's message board - watching them come to the realization that what they are looking at is not just another shooting star, but a meteor the size of Ann Arbor coming straight at them.

I do it because is is fun. But also educational.

I have learned that it is not the players OR the coaches that control a teams destiny. It is the incredible power of the officials to destroy you with a single puff on the whistle. And we in Columbus have been close up witnesses twice to this awesome power.

First was almost two decades ago when Terry Porter committed armed (with a little yellow flag) robbery in the middle of the Arizona desert. It was outrageous. It was flagrant. It was criminal. And yet that simple act destroyed the entire Miami football program for going on 17 years.

And now we have watched the officials work their magic with Michigan.

The problem of course is that Harbaugh is broke. But the question is "What broke Harbaugh?".

And the answer is "The Spot!"

Equally egregious as The Robbery in the Desert, The Spot robbed him of his soul. Ignoring the fact that Barrett fell a full three yards short of the Line of Gain the official - in cahoots with the replay booth - conspired against Michigan to deny them the victory they deserved. The victory he fought for. The victory that was a direct product of the brilliance that was once Jim Harbaugh.

And now he is merely an empty, catatonic shell. I know all this is true - I read about it on MgoBlue!

It happened three years ago and they simply can't let it go. And just as the sight of one of those "Robbery in the Desert" tee shirts used to take the slack out of my shorts, I now need to grab a box of Kleenex or an old tube sock when I click the sad face icon that takes me to my favorite UM Porn site.

Life is good. Yard work can wait.

Thrice.

scUM Minister of Propaganda, John Ü Bacon, is still whining about the 1974 Game - he claims that Mike Shanktry's final FG attempt was good, but "those refs knew where they were reffing, they were reffing in Columbus that day, and that mattered."

Of-fucking-course that game led them to an extistential crisis where he spends a majority of a recap column musing about David Foster Wallace and 'Infinite Jest.' Of-fucking-course. There is nothing...nothing...more scUM than that.

There may be no better metaphor for this year's (or any year, really) scUM football team than 'Infinite Jest'; a critical darling that is a grandiose, overwrought, overly self-important novel that is too long, a slog to get through, and requires too much work from the consumer. Perfect.
