They've been a preseason Playoff team most years since Harbaugh, and probably top 10 every year.
Journalistic laziness + scUM naivete.

There's some real optimism out on the web though... like that CFB reddit crowd where 3rd parties actually think they're good.
I think a lot of them just want somebody other than Ohio State to be dominant...

Nonetheless, I'm trying to figure out how they rate a RB room left with a walkon and whatever is left of their D after NFL and Portal.
A lot of teams are going to make Shea prove he can throw it... and Peters transferred too, with no incoming replacement.
He may also have to sling it just to keep up with the score, because that D was exposed before they lost all their star players.
This is a guy that's always thrived on minnows. Poor games against ND, OSU, UF - ground and air. Arguably good games against PSU and Wiscy - but under 150yds passing in both.

Exactly. Patterson is not a great QB and they have very little to offer at RB.

Also they're replacing way too much on defense. Especially up front.

they've been top 5 pretty much every year for Jim and the only year that was warranted IMO was 2016. They don't recruit well enough to lose players like Winovich/Gary/#10 and not lose a step.

Did anyone see what happened to them without those players?

Most fans of TTUN that I have been around think McCaffrey is the savior because he gives them an elite passer (Shea) and an elite runner (McCaffrey).

Those stats are ok..... Perhaps even good..... But not exactly what I would consider "elite".

Quick sidenote - all those categories where he finished #2 in the Big Ten - anyone know who the guy was who finished ahead of him?

For comparison, I wondered how Mississippi Jesus' stats compared to JT Barrett's stats, since he took so much heat for being a "poor passer".

So if you told me you were going to run a WR driven, pass first offense because you had no running game and JT Barret, the passer, was going to be your QB, I'm not sure how super stoked I'd be about that.

That's not what he's saying at all. He's saying JT would be a slight step up from what they have now.
