UCF also ran for 275yds on them. Peppers is the leading tackler on their D and has some impressive TFL/sack numbers for a multi-role guy at this point... maybe he's finally coming into his hype a little.
But the defense as a whole can still be gashed through the air and on the ground. They've just been playing scrubs -- and yea that emphatically includes CU. This is a team that went 4-9 last year including a loss to 3-10 Hawaii. The only P5 school they beat was Oregon State.
Add in 2-10, 4-8, 1-11, 3-10 to round out their past 5 seasons.

I think we have always given him his due. He is an excellent in the box safety/LB.

The myth part is him being such an otherworldly fluid athlete that he can play any DB position, return kicks and all that a la Rod Woodson is where they lose me. Kid is not good in coverage.

I think the same can be said for QB play in a way, I saw Speight starting to gain a little hype after UCF and Hawaii. Colorado the "best" (not saying much here) defense he's faced so far and he was extremely underwheling. Lucky for them they were able to run the ball somewhat and Colorado's offense played dead after the QB went out.

He's been decent in the box... but he's never lived up to his hype in any form. Maybe he's finally starting to approach it in year 3... maybe he's just racking up numbers against vastly inferior competition.
I suspect it's probably a little of both.
He's always been prouder than his actual production though -- and for that, I thank him. No mistake he's a Hoke recruit.

He's hell on wheels out in the flat breaking up screens.

Other than that, yeah total Hoke entitled, overhyped, mouthy drama queen.

Since we were looking at Clap man's stats above I thought I'd bring up another interesting stat line

16/25 (64%),
246 yards
9.8 ypa
3 TD
0 int

That was the stat line for the Colorado QB in just a little over a half of work against Peppers, Thompson and the rest of that '85 Bears defense they have up there.

Once they face a team that doesn't completely suck on special teams, they are going to have to rely on their defense and offense to make game-changing plays.

Once that happens, scUM loses.

Every time I hear about Michigan "being back" or Peppers for Heisman, I am like:

I've been so underwhelmed with scum in all areas to be honest.

1. They're blocking 2-4 kicks a game which gives them immediate points and without then I don't see them generating another 14-21 points without them.

2. Their only passing weapons are go deep to Chesson/Darbo or run a drag route with Butt. How Butt is always wide open on a drag route baffles me. Well good luck running deep with the corners we have.

3. Speight is a no talent pussy as is their entire RB stable and especially their OL. Speight gets rocked a few times a game still and they give up a ton of negative plays for being veteran up front.

4. They still have no answer on defense for a running QB, outside run plays, and apparently now down the seams.

5.their DL is damn good
