Major college football attendance drops to worst average since 2003

The Wolverines had the sixth-biggest drop of any FBS school, as an average of 6,683 fewer fans showed up to games last season versus the previous year. The 104,909 fans per game put Michigan behind rival Ohio State (106,296) -- which saw an increase of more than 1,300 fans per game during its national championship season -- and Texas A&M (105,123).

Guess Pizza Boy didn't do enough to inflate their attendance numbers
The guy inherited the largest set of seats in America and proceeded to gouge them with premium pricing during the worst run of Michigan football in modern history.

My favorite pizza boy ticket story (and there are tons like this if you talk to connected alumni up north) was the luxury suite owner that was not allowed to renew his season tickets until he apologized to David for the critical things he said on social media.

He will be missed but I have faith that one can continue his work.

self reported 4 violations, which everyone does so they don't get in trouble.

Of everything that's gone down in the past week, I think kicking Dennis Norfleet off the team today is probably the most noteworthy. While he was mainly known for dancing on the field before returning punts, he at least held on to the ball and didn't fumble them.

Dismissed today for skipping finals or something.

Just maybe Norfleet was only suspended:

Suspended or dismissed by Michigan, Dennis Norfleet apologizes

We still don’t know what’s going on with Dennis Norfleet. What we do know is, though, he’s sorry… for whatever it is that’s going on in his life that’s led to recent reports.

In a post on his Instagram account Thursday night, Norfleet apologized to UM fans, UM alumni and current/former UM teammates. He did not offer any specifics regarding for what he’s apologizing, although he did state that he “will be okay.”

Below is Norfleet’s entire missive:

I’ve been crying so much I have no more tears to give I just want to give an apology to all the Michigan fans and the Michigan alumni last but not least my team. We been through it all we all have the same goals that we want to reach but I’ve been talking to God everything is going to be alright for those who don’t know what’s going on… Trust me I will be okay things happen for reason

On Tuesday, it was reported that Norfleet had been dismissed by new head coach Jim Harbaugh. A day later, a report surfaced that the return specialist/wide receiver/cornerback had merely been suspended.

UM has contributed to the uncertainty as the football program has remained mum on the player’s status moving forward.

According to this site Michigan had a total attendance figure of 842,974 in 2014 in 8 home games (Avg 105,372). Michigan only played 7 home games, so I'm not sure how they came up with that figure. In any event, using that figure and subtracting away the free tickets (62,879) gives us a total attendance of 780,095. Dividing that number by 8 games and we get..... 97,512 average attendance.

Went to Wiki and added up the attendance for the seven home games they actually played in 2014. According to those numbers, Michigan had a total attendance of 734,364 in seven games (Avg. 104,909). Removing the freebies gives us: 671,485 for an average attendance of..... 95,926

The article you posted states that they comped 2.8% of their tickets the prior year, and frankly, I have no clue if that's average or customary there or anywhere else. Regardless, without the incredible increase in freebies we'd have the following:

Using the 8 game figure - 2.8% of 842,974 is 23,603. Removing the freebies and we get 819,371 for an average of: 102,421
Using the 7 game figure - 2.8% of 734,364 is 20,562. Removing the freebies and we get 713,802 for an average of: 101,971

Nice job, Pizza Boy.
