I've heard that from several sources. He may be a one-man cult, but he isn't alone in that opinion.
The only video I've ever seen from the game is a terrible angle, and the quality is so bad that you can't see the ball very well. All you can see is that he's kicking from the right hash mark, and the ball gets left in a hurry. I think it was on here that I saw someone post that he was at the game, and had a perfect view of the kick compared to that goalpost, and it clearly went wide left.
Michigan fans are also convinced that they should have won the 1972 game. I guess the score was 14-11, good guys winning, and Michigan went for it on fourth and goal. The runner, according to Michigan fans, crossed the goal line (I'm sure I've seen the adverb "clearly" when Michigan fans tell the story), got pushed backward, crossed the goal line AGAIN, and again got pushed backward. Referees say no touchdown, and Ohio State went on to win. Yay. I don't know that I've ever looked for a replay of that.
Back on topic, the few times I've heard Bacon talk, he hasn't bothered me too much. He seems to have a slight "I'm a Michigan man, you're not, so I'm better than you" attitude. You get far worse from people with far less knowledge than him, so I can let it go. Plus, his hatred of Ohio State comes from respect; unlike the Penn State cult, whose hatred of Ohio State comes from knowing that they cannot be Ohio State.
